We went on our first big shopping day out yesterday to the city centre. I expressed some milk incase Simeon got hungry... and low and behold we get into Primark and he decides he's hungry. We went to a cafe and I tried to give him the bottle... but I think as it was me giving it to him and not my OH, he knew that I have a better option under my bra so refused his bottle. I managed to feed him a little in the cafe but I was a little paranoid so I went to the baby changing room, changed him and saw a chair in there so I decided to use that to feed him. 4 people came in all at once to change their babies and I had the feeling that they were embarrassed, but I actually felt quite confident and fine.

Is it ok to use the changing facilities to feed your baby or are you not supposed to? I did have my coat covering most of my breast so I didn't think it was really offensive.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with what you did. You have to feed your baby somewhere, so if you felt happy & comfortable doing it there then that's what is important.

Hi, It really gets to me that people get embarrassed or annoyed when someone is breast feeding their baby you dont ask them to look and you certainly do it as discreetly as possible so they must be investigating you to even notice.I had it in mc donalds once i covered up with a shawl so nobody could see me and somebody complained luckily the staff told him to mind his buisness but it could easily gone the other way.I think you are doing a fantastic job not enough people breast feed (some through no fault of their own) keep up the good work and nevermind what anyone else thinks x x x

Thanks everyone... I didn't think it was bad but I suppose I needed reassurance as where to bf when I go out is something that has been worrying me for a while. I'll just have to be more confident next time. :hugs:

You can breastfeed wherever you want! People sometimes look a little uncomfortable but that's their problem. Seeing as Simeon is only 2 weeks old, I think you are very brave to get out there and breastfeed him in public...good an ya! x

when I was BF amelia in the dr surgery there was this old couple in there and they kept looking over with a look of horror on there faces

DH was with me and said to them havent been able to touch them since shes been breast feeding OMFG was I embarrassed i think they were in even more shock and didnt look over again

Gem x

I can't BF Caitlyn in public anymore she blows fart noises on my boobs

I think it is fine what you did. I still feel a little uncomfortable in public and Oliver is 3 months old. I worry that someone will kick off, it will upset Oliver, then I will have a screaming baby on my hands. That would just break my heart.

you feed whee you like hun the chair in there says to me that thats what its there for, and mothers with babies should no better if they kick a stink up and shame on them if they do i'd feed my baby anywhere if i had to.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: <3

Honestly if it were me I'd breastfeed (with a shawl) anywhere and anytime! (except when I'm driving ) Anyone with a problem can get stuffed, there's nothing indecent or sexual about breastfeeding so people should let well enough alone!!

its fine hun thats what the chair is there for. x x

I've done it and Hannah's bottle fed. She is not a good eater in public (too much to see and do).

I too say breastfeed when and where you need to. I did with DS and I didn't cover up once I had the nack of latching him on people couldn't see anything anyways. I fed him anywhere right up until he weaned at about 16 months.

hi, i dont b-feed but i dont have a probloem with seeing other ladies feeding in the baby rooms.

however i know my husband has been made to feel as if he cant be in there changing our sons nappy, only a small amount of times luckily, if a lady is b-feeding.

in mothercare theyve got a MOM and baby feeding room but nowhere for dads to bottle feed their baby-that annoyed me.

but yes-feed where you like, its natural. just dont tut at my hubby when he comes into the change room with our baby lol. (luckily most people are nice).

keely.
