Im too ashamed to post a photo since my baby is 6 weeks old and still using a nipple shield. The photos here are so beautiful and everyones doing it right. Not using some lame piece of plastic. I could almost cry looking at these pics, wishing it would work like that for us :(

I fished out this picture for you, we used a nipple shield for three months until my LO didn't want it anymore! Not going to pretend I liked it but it makes no difference, our LO's are getting our milk which is the most important thing.

This picture is when she was only 13 days old so she still had that dry skin thing happening :p

I only have a few breastfeeding pics as we had to stop at 3 weeks due to LO's severe reflux and allergy. They are very precious to me.

Wifey29 Im not surprised these photos are precious to you, they are beautiful. In those 3wks he will have had all the colostrum which is an amazing thing to have given him :hugs:

Aw thank you honeybear. It still tears me up that I couldn't breastfeed my baby. I have a freezer full for breast milk, but when we tried him on some a week ago his reflux returned within minutes and he developed a horrible rash. The doctor thinks he is actually allergic to my milk. He's happy and healthy on his hypoallergenic milk though, and if he's happy, I'm happy. I really appreciate your kind words xx

Almost 3 weeks EBF now! Struggling alot as Emmy is being very sick alot and always unsettled afterward.

WIFEY: How did you realise it was the breast milk causing the issue? What signs did you have?

Do you suppose the fact that I myself am lactose intolerant could be causing the LO to have the same issue with my milk?

Here she is... proudly latched =D

(Sorry its so big)

Is your diet dairy free? If your baby is lactose intolerant then she should still be fine drinking your milk as long as you don't consume anything with lactose in it.

Maybe she has reflux if she throws up a lot and seems unhappy? Worth seeing your doc about it!

Will would constantly latch and unlatch, scream (not your normal cry, this was full on body thrashing screaming) during and after feeding which would last a good two hours at a time, then he started to scream at the sight of my breast. He was incredibly unsettled and comfort fed a lot, the doctor said this was why he gained over a pound in his first five days. He also had a rash all over his back from his first feed and would get a red mark where ever the milk touched. While this was happening with him, I had mastitis three times in three weeks and my nipples bled and bled due to the constant pulling on and off. I was dairy free the entire time I fed him. We tried him on C&G and expressed milk to give me a break, but this made him worse, so we went to exclusively expressed milk for 4 weeks to no avail and eventually he was put on Nutramigen Lipil hypoallergenic milk with domperidone and ranitidine and he is now finally settled.

We didn't have any sickness at all. I'm not sure about lactose intolerance. Milk protein allergies/intolerances are different from lactose intolerance. To me it sounds like she has some reflux, it would be worth a trip to the doctor or health visitor. Having reflux doesn't always mean that there is an allergy or intolerance though. Most reflux babies grow out of it at around 4 months I think.

Good luck x

:happydance: What a beautiful picture! I know what a wonderful feeling it is when your 2nd breastfeeds so easily after having a hard time breastfeeding your first.
