Yesterday I reported 2 pictures from a strip clubs facebook page (one was the profile picture which is how I saw it originally) for nudity because they were topless, upside down on a pole. Facebook then informed me the photos did not fall in the offensive category. So I posted this as my facebook status:

So Facebook finds breastfeeding pictures unacceptable but a stripper pole dancing topless doesn't violate their nudity and pornography guidelines?! wtf facebook..

Which resulted in many likes and comments of people agreeing or disagreeing with my opinion, which is fine, I enjoy hearing a variety of opinions and don't usually feel the need to challenge people on their own BUT I found it interesting that some thought ALL of those pictures don't belong on FB because of the boob-factor. I personally don't see anything wrong with BFing pictures but the stripper offended me and I don't feel like it's appropriate to have on public display.

opinions?

I love taking pictures of my LO breastfeeding, they're some of my favourites. I wouldn't put them on Facebook, though.

That being said I have a friend who's posted a couple of breastfeeding pictures and just like the ones posted here, I think they're really sweet and I have no issue with it.

It makes me a bit angry to think that Facebook deems breastfeeding pictures inappropriate at all let alone in comparison to sexual pictures showing off breasts.

Just goes to show the demographic of social networking sites, I suppose. Not so long ago I got in a huge twitter debate about breastfeeding with a bunch of 20-something-year-old guys who think breastfeeding is "icky" but probably have 50 pictures of topless girls on their harddrive.

I guess I don't personally see the comparison. I have one photo of Iris breastfeeding while I'm drinking from a coke can that reads "share a coke with Iris", so it isn't exactly an intimate shot but her head covers everything, most of my shirts show more boobage than that picture. Not to mention bikinis and selfies with more boobs than that picture. I never once thought for a second it might offend anyone or I wouldn't have posted. If I had nice shots of me breastfeeding I might post them.

And yes FB will remove BFing pictures if they are reported.

I love seeing breastfeeding pics specially on fb becasue opinions on it shouldnt be seen need to change and fb pffft they are messed up i think they might be abit insane on some of their policies meh i do agree with u thought the stripper on a pole topless is offencive and im sorry but hte maojity of bf pics ou can see the persons top that they have pulled up or down for lo to feed and babies face obscured so how is that more nudity and unacceptable then a stripper with her breast tottaly out ?

Ive had pictures reported and removed. It is ridiculous.

This was one that was removed

Yet this one has been on my facebook since 2007 and is obviously deemed more appropriate as its not been removed

:wacko::wacko::wacko: Ive seen pictures of people sat on the toliet, lets of them infact and facebook has no issue with it. 13 year old girls in next to nothing and again that is more appropriate then a baby being fed

Wow that's mental. It just goes to show you how we've sexualised breasts over the years and basically forgotten that they're for our children, not our partners.

That being said I'm very liberal about nudity, so I personally wouldn't report the strip club either.

It's weird isn't it? Racist and offensive literature is also deemed less offensive than a suckling infant. I do wonder if the majority of their employees are closet racist perverts who exchange dead baby jokes.

i think it should be one rule for all. If FB wants to say no to nudity it should be all nudity, be it breastfeeding, pole dancing, boob hanging out of top etc.

Is it just me..but..Surely these pictures should come under the protection of the law that breastfeeding mums can feed their babies anywhere?
I think its absolutely pathetic that fb sees these photos as offensive..it irritates me alot actually :(
I do wonder whether this attitude will ever change..

I don't have fb but if I did I wouldn't want my lo on there. X

I think it's silly that breastfeeding photos are not allowed on Facebook whereas stripper photos are. It's not like you can even see a lot of breast on the photos. Some women go clubbing wearing more revealing tops than what is shown breastfeeding, yet that is deemed to be ok while something as natural as feeding your baby is breaking photo rules.

This is what my baby thinks of it

Thats unreal.
Breastfeeding is natural, upside down women with boobs out is not.

Don't get me wrong, I personally wouldn't post pictures of me breast feeding on facebook but I am far from offended from other peoples pictures of breast feeding.

x

This is the best bf picture i have seen!! Brilliant! X

This is facebook's offical report thing now

Facebook has a strict policy against the sharing of pornographic content and any explicitly sexual content where a minor is involved. We also impose limitations on the display of nudity. We aspire to respect people’s right to share content of personal importance, whether those are photos of a sculpture like Michelangelo's David or family photos of a child breastfeeding.

So BF photos should be allowed now!?!?!

They say that but if someone reports the photo they still will take them down. They're picky about nipples being visible and stuff

It is a bit odd that people are reporting those as offensive, I don't personally like looking at photos of it but it's a natural thing and I don't find it offensive, I definitely don't think it can be compared to people dressed half naked and doing all sorts of crude things on camera.

I have never breast-fed, I couldn't. But to me that is not only natural but beautiful , I don't know how anyone could find it offensive . I understand if some don't wanna look at it , fine, but that is just a click on your mouse ..

This is ridiculous! One of my favourite pictures from my homebirth is one where I'm feeding LO right after she was born and DH and I are just looking into her face for the first time and beaming! It's very tasteful and I would have wanted to share it on fb to family members. :/

It's sad when breasts are known more for being sexual objects and not for what they were designed to do -- feed babies. :(
