Hi ladies! I currently expecting my second baby and I was just curious....after you have baby #2, is breastfeeding kind of like riding a bike, does it all come back to you? I wouldn't say nursing DD1 was easy, we had quite a few problems like low supply and trouble latching, but we both finally got set into a rhythm. I wasn't sure what to expect with baby #2. Is it something you get the swing of pretty quickly, or does it all kind of depend on the baby?

I'm a little worried, because I never felt like I produced enough, and feel like that might have had something to do with DD1s colic/reflux. Has anyone had a better supply the 2nd go around?

Thanks!

I am interested in this too. I had a very successful (too successful, ha ha?) bfing relationship with my son (just 4 days younger than your Riley!) and we nursed for 2.5 years. Aside from minor things like chapped nipples/soreness at the beginning, it really wasn't hard or particularly painful. It was important for me to learn about cluster feeding though because people around me would unhelpfully act astonished and question my supply when DS would want to feed OVER AND OVER AGAIN in the evenings after only short breaks. He was also a super spitter upper. I just assumed I was a pro at this by now and it would be very natural second time around but of course I've already heard worried remarks from MIL and that has planted a seed of doubt. Surely it is, as you said, like riding a bike? but then I realize I really don't know!

Personally, I had so many issues my first time around. I got matistis and also had some horrible latching problems to the point I cried alot when she nursed! I ended up stopping at about 10 weeks. This time, it's been wonderful. My boobs have hardly been sore (it was like the first couple days and when growth spurts occur) and this baby has been an awesome nurser! I almost don't ever want to stop nursing but I go back to my busy work in 5 more weeks so I'm going to go to formula. I work crazy hours that are almost never the same and I'm constantly running around doing something so I doubt my supply will last!

I think YOU remember the basics of nursing, but obviously each baby is different, and each time is different. With DS1, he had a terrible latch and it took us quite a bit for me to heal and for him to get a good latch. With this new baby, he latches like a dream, but I still got one sore nipple that's healing, and this time I got an infection in one breast, despite doing everything "correct." I just think each time is so different :)

Thanks so much for your responses, ladies! I'm sure it depends on the baby too. I just hope things work out so I can nurse again, and hopefully enjoy it more than the first go around:haha:

I had a lot of issues the first time. Mastitis, cracked and bleeding nipples etc but we got through it. The second time has just been a dream. Not one bit of pain ever. We had issues with him having a tongue tie so he had that clipped and he has a better latch though.

I had latch issues with my first, the first 3-4 days were hard as he couldn't latch but after that breastfeeding went well and we continued for 2 years! I had my second two weeks ago and unfortunately struggled again with latching him on! Very similar situation with my first the only difference being this baby latched on a few hours after birth but couldn't once we got home. He was very sleepy and wouldn't feed so I had to express into cups. His now breastfeeding like a pro although we still have times were he struggles to latch then gets frustrated.

Hope bf is easier this time round for you x

Breastfeeding DS1 was a little rough in the beginning. Sore, cracked, bleeding nipples, clogged ducts, a few latch issues in the first week or two.

DS2 is going 9 months strong and was like a dream. No latch issues, no bleeding, no pain at all from day 1.

With my first, the only issue we had was the nipple pain from starting out and trying to learn the whole bf thing. This time around, my little guy has had zero issue and I have had absolutely no pain. It's been a breeze! Definitely all comes back to you. :)
