So i'm 38w pregnant and have had a feeling for about 8-10wk the baby is transversed.

MW picked this up at my appt on Monday and said she thinks either transverse or breech and I'm booked in for growth and position scan (as FH hasn't progressed in 2w)

My q to you mamas -

1) Was your baby breech / transverse at 38w?
2) Did you have an ECV? I have an anterior placenta and have read this is tricky
3) Did you have CSec or natural?
4) Did baby turn from 38w onwards - e.g. at rescan before CSEC?

thanks in advance. x

My answers are probably irrelevant, but in each of my scans, LO was footling breech. However each time I got reassured he would probably turn on his own, and for some reason, the midwife thought he was head down, and so they didn't do any more scans.

However, he WAS still footling breech and never turned on his own, and we discovered this when I was in labour and his foot was felt in the birthing canal. So I was rushed for an emergency c-section.

I had anterior placenta too, I don't know if that's linked or makes babies more likely to be breech, but my little guy definitely wasn't turning by himself, haha.

thanks for your reply - funny enough everyone I know who's had a breech baby / or every thread on the internet appears to have boys.

My MW hs only just picked this up because FH measurement so the second MW said she would re-measure and check and then had a feel and said no baby is breech or transverse so FH is out. :nope:

i had transverse lie with polyhydramnious, tried to turn him, wish i hadnt, had a elective caesarian, it was a straight forward op, and was a lovely non scary experience

I had about 4 different midwives convinced my little man was breech. They'd started talking options with me and everything. Went for a scan at about 37 weeks and it turned out he just had a fat bum and was lying funny! They're not always right! Try not to worry until you know for sure.

1) Was your baby breech / transverse at 38w?
I didn't make it to 38 weeks (I had him @ 36+2 due to low fluid) He was breech then and a few weeks before as well.
2) Did you have an ECV? I have an anterior placenta and have read this is tricky
No ~ These look too painful to me..
3) Did you have CSec or natural?
C-S
4) Did baby turn from 38w onwards - e.g. at rescan before CSEC?
No ~ see answer #1

1) Was your baby breech / transverse at 38w?

My son was frank breech

2) Did you have an ECV? I have an anterior placenta and have read this is tricky

I did have an ECV and it failed. It was painful, and I wouldn't do it again. I also had an anterior placenta that was high and my OB said it contributed to my son not being able to turn.

3) Did you have CSec or natural?

I had to have a c-section at 38+4 because they did not want to chance me going into natural labour.

4) Did baby turn from 38w onwards - e.g. at rescan before CSEC?

Unfortunately, no he didn't.

I was told at 32 weeks that my boy was breech. At the time I was told not to worry. I started trying the natural exercises from spinning babies to try get him to turn. At the time I was seeing a high risk consultant so was having weekly scans. At 39 weeks he was still breech. His knees were at his chest with his feet crossed and hanging down.
I turned down the ECV for a number of reasons: anterior placenta, low success rate, pain and risk of ending in emcs. My insurance only kicked in at 38+2 and it would have been done at 37 weeks. Thank goodness I did turn it down because his legs and abdomen were wrapped up on the cord, which was why he couldn't turn. It would have been a huge risk to have had it.
I had my last scab at 39 weeks and went for a planned c section at 39+1. I even had a scan right before going into the theatre.

Originally we were going to wait for me to go into labour and see if he turned then because we're pretty sure my dd did this (not quite sure due to language barrier and no scans towards the end). But there were other risk factors to take into account and ultimately it wasn't worth it. In the end having the c section was the best and safest choice for my baby.

Ds2 was breech but went undiagnosed until they didnt see a head they saw a bum as I was pushing.
I carried on naturally and I believe he was Frank breech

My ob only realized at like 39 wks my daughter was bum down (i think this is franks breech). I was not happy and wanted to avoid c section. So at 40 weeks on the dot he turned her via ecv and it worked. Didnt hurt at all just felt weird and pressure and my tummy was a bit sore after. It worked so well (it literally took 2 mins) bc she was not engaged, i had lots of fluid and it was second baby. She stayed head down and i had her a week later vaginally with a very smooth labour

After following advice of Spinning Babies the baby has naturally turned now :)

Yay, that's great news!
All the best for your labour and delivery!

My 2nd baby was breech but turned on his own at 38wks. He had to have a hip scan done at birth. I was told they always do this if a baby has been breach late on in pregnancy just to check his hips wasn't squashed

2 midwives said my baby was head down, right up until I went into labour and was examined. They felt a bottom instead of a head and a further scan showed her little feet by her ears. I was wheeled off for an EMCS. It was traumatic at the time but she's here and safe. I think she was head up the whole time as I could always feel a big lump at the top of my bump and could feel little knees moving in weird places! I wish I'd been able to prepare for the section. My ELCS was much more relaxing.
