if you have a breech baby and go for a section, how do they make the incision? is it vertical or horizontal across the bikini line?

It should be low, horizontal. Breech or Head down caesarians will be the same. Classical incisions, i.e. straight up and down incisions only take place in certain cases. :)

ok i had a right old panic on since the other day thinking it would be vertical! teach me not to google!!!

It's horizontal hun, I had an ELCS because my LO was breech. The scar's no longer than 4 1/2 inches... I was amazed she fit out of there seeing as she was such a chunk :haha:

Your LO still has plenty of time to turn though :hugs:

i know theres plenty of time but i dont think it will happen. Im going to talk to my midwife about it. When i had my last section (near 4 years ago) they stitched me too tight and ive had loads of problems because of it since. The otehr day it felt like my baby tried to turn but the pain was immense and baby moved back. i dont give a damn about how hes born as long as hes ok, i just dont fancy a vertical scar :)

i think they only do vertical for emergencies whenn baby needs to be out immediately. very rare i think

Exactly. They also occasionally do them when someone is really early (23-26 weeks) because the uterus is too small at that gestation to do the low horizontal incision. You'll be in your bikini in no time!:winkwink:

Verticals incisions are performed on prems because the lower segment of the uterus isn't fully formed until 32 weeks pregnant. As for emergency or crash caesarians, they are still the low horizontal cut. :)
