Brown Spotting Week Before AF

I realize that there is already a thread for this. The thread is so huge that I am having a hard time sifting through all of the posts. Has anyone determined what could be the cause of brown spotting the week before AF and if it affects the chances of conceiving?

I am curious about that too. This cycle I had the same thing happen to me. It was very confusing. Hopefully someone has the answer.

This has happened to me for as long as I can remember. I remember back in junior high when my friends and I would talk about AF. My friends would always share their embarrassing moments of AF arriving unexpectedly. I was always so confused because I had always gotten spotting so I knew when AF was about to arrive. Nobody else had it, though. I thought I was lucky. Now I am not so sure...

Oh! I read somewhere that tampons may be the culprit? So along with taking the B Complex, I will also be using pads this month. What an interesting month this should be.

I've had this for a few years now. I mentioned it to my OBGYN 6 months back and she ran all these tests on me. Thyroid and ultrasounds. No cause found. I started taking B-Complex and I swear in just one cycle I went down to spotting only 3 days. I'm down to 2 so far... it really helped me a ton. Good luck!

There really is no "cause" for the bleeding/spotting a week before AF. Mostly all it is though is the blood slowly making its way down the cervix to the vaginal canal when the lining of the uterus begins to swell and shed. No need for concern. If your pap results are normal, then all is well.

I used to get spotting a week before AF (always told me exactly when to expect AF) and now spotting comes around 4 days before.

i have read that if you spot before your period it is because of low progesterone. I have spotted all this year for several days before AF, when tested, my ovulation was very weak or non existent...which after ovulation, your body produces progesterone to support a pregnancy.

This could be a possible cause, but I had all my hormones checked and all is well. I still get the spotting.
