Hi ladies,

I gave birth 5 weeks ago and I had a 2nd degree labial tear with several stitches. I feel completely healed but for the past two weeks or so my clitoris feels bruised almost like I've been kicked there very hard! I know there's an increase in blood flow to that area but it just seems strange that I haven't had the pain/tenderness from the beginning. Has anyone else had anything similar? I'm dying to dtd and feel ready except I'm worried about hurting that particular area! How long did it take for the bruised feeling to pass?

Thanks :)

Hi, i had something similar. I couldnt figure out if it was my clitoris or my urethra? I thought it was bruised from the catheter, did you have a catheter? Whatever mine was i think it stopped about 8 weeks x

I read about women feeling something similar after having a catheter but I didn't have one. I do remember feeling pain as if I was tearing upwards when giving birth and thinking that my clitoris was bring ripped but it was fine and the tear was just in my labia. I'm sure it will go away soon but was just curious if it had happened to anyone else especially as it is something that has come on later x

Mine didn't come on till later but to be honest I was in pain with all sorts of things so I might not have noticed it at first! But it did really feel like it was my clitoris which was bruised!

I had a catheter in for over 24 hours after a clitoris/urethra/labia tear! I felt it tear when LOs head was coming out...makes me cringe thinking about it now!

I dont feel any bruising like you describe, but I definitely don't feel quite 100% there yet, and not up to DTD! :(

I feel so reassured to see that other people have this. I had a c section nearly 9 weeks ago and clitoris definitely feels odd. I also had a catheter. We have DTD a few times but it really hurts and never thought about the catheter so thanks for putting my mind at rest! x

Should probably add, to try and put your mind at rest a bit, that it has eased a bit each time we've done it. Hope you feel ok soon xxx

I wonder why I have the bruised feeling when I didn't have a catheter? It seems to mainly affect women who have had a catheter but I'm struggling to hear about anyone who didn't have one but who is getting the same feeling :( I'm beginning to think I may have torn somewhere other than my labia and that they missed it or didn't tell me (they weren't the most informative on what had actually happened and where - I had to ask to find out exactly where the damage was) It's encouraging to know that the pain does eventually go even when you ladies have had a catheter so hopefully it will be the same for me :) x

Have you done a little visual inspection of the area? Bc when I first noticed the pain in my urethra (I too, did have a catheter), I couldn't really pinpoint where exactly I was hurting until I took a look and saw a bit of inflammation. Then put 2 & 2 together--damn catheter! Nearly 3 weeks out and is still sore!

Side note for others who had the catheter--I didn't notice any soreness until about 3 days after birth, is that normal? I would think I would have felt it right away? How long has the soreness lasted for you all??

Mine didnt start hurting till a while after either, but as i said, that might have been because something else was hurting more at the time so i didnt notice it, lol! I cant remember when it stopped hurting, definitely by 12 weeks but maybe about 6/7 weeks pp xxx

Could be where the pelvic bone separated slightly during birth. It's right behind the clitoris and the clitoral nerve is very close to it, I had this and did some research to find out why it was so sore. If it is that, it will go back together gradually over the weeks and the pain will go :)

I never thought of that, I did have some pelvic problems during pregnancy so it would make sense. It is starting to feel better each day now and I can feel a definite difference so will hopefully feel completely better soon :)

Thanks ladies x

I was wondering too! My pain started about 5 days after..it feels so inflamed and ..well bruised! I had a catheter..I didn't even think of that, and I had pelvic issues, and if I sit too long I can hardly take a first step. Man I can't wait to heal!

I didn't have a catheter but also tore my labia - only needed 2 stitches though so probably not as bad as yours. A few days after the area was all swollen and took a while to go down. Now it's the same as yours and feels like I've been kicked in that area! My MW did a check recently of the area when I mentioned this to check nothing else was wrong but it's all healing perfectly and apparantly this is common for those with labia tearing? It's starting to ease slightly but I can still feel the bruising so I would imagine for someone that had more stitches then it could take a while longer?

Thank you! So glad to hear of someone who has something similar (as horrible as it is!) I was beginning to think that there might have been something else wrong especially since all the ladies who replied have all had catheters. It is getting better just very slowly, luckly it doesnt bother me the majority of the time, its only when I sit in a certain way or stand up too fast which makes it feel like all the blood is rushing to that area. Typical me I have just had my 6 week check up and completely forgot to mention it! Think Ill just see how it goes and hopefully it will feel back to normal soon Hope you feel better! x

Just curios to know if the pain cleared up. I am now 3weeks 5 days pp and experiencing this pain you've described - no catharer and only started about 10 days after delivery. Feels reallybl bruised in the clitoris area, hurts after I've had a wee and sometimes when I stand up. Pain only lasts for 30 seconds or so but still noticeable. X
