we had a bumbo given us from our SIL partner as her work was throwing it out strangely however to the point

when i put my LO in it she does these weird things and im worried she is going to hurt her self she kind of makes her body rigin and straight and she can almost pop her legs out over the top iykwim
also she tries to reach to the side iykwim and she nearly tips it bloody over bless her lol

my main q is will she grow out of doing this or am i best getting rid of it before she hurts her self as at the mo we have taken to just letting it sit in the corner and its gathering dust and getting in the way would be a shame for it to go to waist as i could sell it on to someone else :-/

I'm following this thread as my son keeps twisting around in the bumbo also. He's almost 6 months and has been doing this for the last 2 months. I think he just wants to look around at everything and wants to move, so he's been trying to get out. I watch him and so far he hasn't yet fallen out, though I've had to run to him a few times (I went to the sink to warm up a wet washcloths for his messiness after eating).

I think he's just skinny so he has more room for moving around.

I have a wriggle-bum baby. She sits in her bumbo for about 2mins & then does what you describe. She makes herself stiff as a board in a straight line to lift her bum out and leans over the side really far to reach for things.

She has pretty much always done this & I just see it as her trying to escape because she's a cheeky little monster who likes to give me heart attacks! She'd much rather be on the floor! Luckily she's a hefty bubba so her thighs won't come out no matter how hard she tries :haha:

I keep it for things like cutting her toe nails/ filing her finger nails & I sit her in it while we watch "something special" so I can sit away from her & sign along with the telly. I don't leave her on her own in it & I'll pass it on as soon as she stops wobbling whilst on the floor.

Hope that helps xx

My LO has done exactly the same but he managed to somehow roll out of his :o\ x

I've stopped using it as I'd also bought an inflatable playring x never had a bumbo when my other boys were little but had the playring - I rate the ring much better then the bumbo x but that's just my opinion x

Hey Hun
I found it wasn't so good at such a young age, but now T is a big bigger she seems happier in it

i pug the tray on so she couldnt do it and put some toys on it to get her attention and she was ok for about 10 mins lol

My daughter done the same and when i saw her half turned with 1 leg nearly out i decided to limit the time she sat in it and help her sit with my support. That way i knew she was safe..But aslong as u keep eye on them they cant come to much harm, sit with them and distract them or something

The girls were doing this- putting trays on worked for a bit but then decided to stop using them as was worried they would hurt themselves xx

Isobel did this. She didn't like the bumbo when we first got it at about 3.5 months, she just slumped and cried. About 4.5 months she went through a short period where she would be ok in it for 10 mins or so, however it was at this point she pulled the top bit of the tray off! At 5 months she was doing the straight back trying to escape move and I was scared she would tip it over. Her legs are also squeezed tight (when you lift her up the bumbo comes with her and I have to peel off the bumbo!). We don't use it anymore and I'm glad we paid £6.99 at a charity shop instead of buying one new..

Daisy could get out of hers at 4 months old, she was really strong though and was army crawling at the time.

Most of the reviews I read on the Bumboo said that by the time their LO was steady enough to safely sit in it they could get out. Then they soon grew out of it! So it was a little pointless!

Got mine for LO and 2 months and thank god that I watched him the whole time. He literally arched his back and flew backwards out of it almost hitting his head on the wooden floors. Worst £40 I spent, which was also a complete rip off.

my lo can sit unaided anyway but i sit him in it to feed him sometimes, i went to go and get another spoon for him to play with, came back and he was on the floor! i watched him after this, he twists to the side to get his leg out and just flings himself on the floor! he hates being confined in anything, he prefers to be on the floor, so glad it was second hand :dohh:
