Hi all, just wondering (this sort of follows on from my post yesterday about being a bit uncomfortable) has anyone tried a bump support band? are they a waste of money?

from googling it seems they are mostly for back problems which (touch wood) aren't too bad (yet?) but for me I seem to have issues with my bladder.. I wondered if this would help? I think I have something wrong with my bladder anyway but obv being pregnant exacerbates it.. I feel like I need to wee all the time, and sometimes I do even if I've *just* been like I can't fully empty my bladder or something. I went to the doctors a few days ago and they did a quick dip strip urine test which came back negative for infection - he did say that doesn't necessarily mean I don't have one though, and wrote me a prescription for anti-biotics which he said he was happy for me to cash in when I felt I needed it.. so I'm thinking of asking them to send off a sample for cultures or something.
the doctor said what I described sounded more like irritable bladder or something??

I had this same problem last time I was pregnant too. It puts me off going out because I'm constantly thinking I need to wee soon. I'm sure some of it is partly psychological. I used to get cystitis really awfully as a child and a friend suggested I could have some scarring from that. I'm also prone to it as an adult if I'm dehydrated.

Anywho I wondered if a support band my help alleviate some pressure off my bladder and pelvic floor? .. I've had a sore feeling in my pelvis today and I'm wondering if it's my pelvic floor muscles? (I do try to exercise them a lot so I'm wondering if I've over done it or made them sore from so much peeing!?)

I have the same issue but had it before getting pregnant and went to a consultant who said irritable bladder,so annoying as nothing can be done during pregnancy for it
Mine has actually improved while pregnant because apparently we release a muscle relaxant so I'm hoping it doesn't go back to normal one I have the baby. Anyway I think the band might help and its worth a short right? Might just keep baby from sitting on your bladder and making it worse! Hope you get sorted!

Sounds just like how my problem started. The flow of urine became obstructed and over time this led to an infection of the bladder, pelvis and kidneys. One night I woke shaking, with my whole pelvis burning and the pain radiating to my legs and ribs, extreme back ache, fever, contractions.
I started taking Penicillin and felt better within hours. But on a dose of two tablets a day my problems kept returning after 5 hours. Meanwhile doctors and ER's were trying to get rid of me without proper testing. The quick urine sample always came back negative because the infection was much higher up. No one did a culture even when I was urging for it.
Eventually I ended up in an ambulance after suffering a shock. That night they found my kidneys are infected due to congestion...the new antibiotics weren't working well either because I was never able to fully drain and empty my bladder. So the infection kept coming back. One doctor told me it is likely caused by my baby pressing on everything and will persist. It could be on antibiotics for the rest of my pregnancy, but if does not stay away with different interventions they might have to remove the baby via C-Section to save me from kidney failure. Which would be very bad right now because he is too small to live.

I kept insisting it is not a normal UTI or pregnancy related bladder problems but everyone just tried to get rid of me. I downright feel like murdering people right now, that is how angry I am that they let it get so bad I might lose the baby or even die myself if I try to go as long as possible in this pregnancy. Doctors should take you very seriously so it doesn't get to that point. This is the second time I am dealing with it.

so sorry you've had to deal with this, must be awful for you, I hope the antibiotics are doing some good (?) x I think you're right often doctors have a tendency to fob people off as just a typical symptom of pregnancy. Hope you're on the road to recovery x

ah I'm glad your's has improved :) do you mind me asking if your symptoms of irritable bladder were the same as I mentioned?

I forgot to mention, when they tested my urine at the GP they did say it had protein in it, and my urine also had protein in it when I went to see the midwife a few weeks ago... is this concerning? they didn't seem too bothered...!? (the midwife asked if I felt unwell but at the time I was OK)

If I remember rightly I had protein in my urine a few times when I was pg with #1 too?

Protein in Urine is a sign of an infection: https://www.kidney.org.uk/help-and-...s/medical-info-kidney-disease-urinfect/#cause

After the baby is born everything should go back to normal for me! Just have these 3+ months ahead of me where idk what discomfort awaits me.

I had a bladder condition before pregnancy and the hormones from pregnancy actually improved it but it was the exact same symptoms as you said: always feeling full and not really having to go much, much like having a uti constantly. It would cause me to leak ever so slightly. Hormones from pregnancy improved it but I think it could go either way. Dietary changes helped (less acidic food) and learning to relax the pelvic floor, which is helpful to be able to do for l&d coming up. I'm not sure if a belt would help though! Sorry you're going through this, it's a very uncomfortable thing to deal with!

If you're not looking specifically for a bump-support band, Mumberry makes really great pants and shirts that have built-in "MumBands" that are specifically designed to help take the weight off of your back and hips. And they are so cute and comfy! Definitely worth going to their website and looking :) Hope your pain eases soon! :/
