Hi Girls (and guys!)

I've noticed that a few of us are using the sites ad-space and doing some bits self-employed & there are a few thinking of starting up.

As i'm sure many of you know networking and internet marketing can do a heck of alot for your business, So i figured why not start from here?

We could share tips, advice and some moral support for everyone, Being self employed can be very difficult and isolating at times!

There seems to be threads for just about everything on this forum!

Good Idea!!

I'm going to be setting up freelance from the end of February (seems too close for my liking lol) working from home during the day and evenings. The plan is coming together and I have my setup money (oh Professional indemnity arghhhh lol) so I will just need to find some clients.

How do you get the adspace? Do you just ask the mods?

if you go to your user CP then to paid subscriptions you get it through there :) it tells you everything to do

Interesting one. Although I am going back to paid employment to clear the debts I am also going self employed at nights! Got a good offer the other week so couldn't refuse and hope it takes off. Got a bit of a prob with indemnity insurance but will hopefully get around it.

Got my first meeting with the partylite lady this evening!! Think she's just explaining how everything works, getting to know me etc. im really excited!! Is that sad? haha I just looove the products and really excited to get out there and meet new people. Its hard at the same time coz my confidence is zero and most of the time Ill bluff it but hoping this might help!!!

I love the products too theyre just gorgeous x

Woop had my first meeting tonight and it was sooo cool getting my started pack dropped off tomorrow night, got my first party 8th Feb. Can't wait!!! x

I love having a look at people's sigs and seeing what businesses they have. It's so varied!

How did you all get into running your own business, and how do you find it with kids? What attracted you to the industry you work in?

I'd like to be properly self employed one day, but that's probably years down the line. atm I just do freelance advertising work from home, but that's only a few hours a week. :)

Hi Raf, well ive started doing Barefoot Books.

Why? because they are gorgeous, there are books that cover all the different cultures and religions, they are beautifully written and the illustrations are incredable. I think its so important for DD to have some idea of other cultures that i may never be able to take her to witness first hand :)

Did you girls make your own signature things for the adspace or did you get them somewhere? x

Im having a reeeally tough time with this atm can't get ANY party bookings no one seems bothered in the slightest. No idea what to do!! Im so annoyed Im trying really hard to be sucessful but no one can be bothered to give me a bit of a helping hand grr! Just dunno what to do!

oh hunny... what is it your doing?

i just found this thread as im going to be setting up an online retail site selling pet supplies, mainly dogs and cats bits. Im hoping it will go well.

OOh great thread!
Im a professional recruitment manager and deliver employability training to unemployed people for a huge and well known private sector company. Id really like to set up my own business which I could run primarily from home doing peoples CV's, supporting in interview preparation, filling in appication forms and supporting in job search etc etc.
Ive no experience in Self employment but once baby is here I think I will start with a bit of internet advertising and see how it goes....be nice to hear from other mums who have set up on their own and how they found it! x

My website went live today :happydance:

Im so excited, i want someone to buy something lol

I posted this a while ago and got no replies :haha:

Anyway hope someone can help me here....

I just wondered those ladies who work from home and look after their babies at the same time, how do you manage to divide your time? I'm planning on starting a little business from home in the not too distant future, pretty certain it will make no money for the 1st year or so anyway but obviously I'll need to dedicate some time to it but I also don't want to neglect my daughter or the house really. At the moment I am mega busy from the moment I get up at 7am until I put the children to bed at 7pm, then I eat, wash up, maybe do more washing/ironing and I collapse in bed around 10.30pm. Would I have to fit work in when the children are in bed or do you do so many hours a day? If you do that what do you do with the children? My daughter is only 10 months old and hates playing on her own or being left on her own really. If the business does take off then perhaps when she gets a little older I would put her in nursery for a couple of days a week if we could afford it. Thanks in advance.

I run my own business and have done for about 2 years, however this year has been the hardest with the recession and being pregnant.

I run a local 'free' magazine, which advertisers pay to go into. I work with my cousin and when Dylan arrived early we both decided to save the money that we spent on the office and 'work from home' with him supposedly looking after the bulk of the business while Dylan was little. However he definitely isn't pulling his weight so now I need to learn sooner rather than later how to balance everything! Work, home and Dylan!

Going to need a fair bit of luck otherwise this business will go down the pan!

Also ladies I'm looking to earn a bit of extra money on the side. Any small businesses I can do at night? What about Avon? Any good?

i did avon and i didnt find that i really made a great deal from it. You end up having to pay for your new books, bags etc and i also found that i ended up buying stuff myself so i never really made any money from it. You have to get over £70ish of sales each campaign before you earn anything out of it. Also a pain in the arse when you keep walking round to your customers to drop stuff off and they are never in!
