"But they don't seem like preemies..."

My twins are 13 weeks today, 6 weeks adjusted- they were born at 32 weeks weighing 4 lbs and 4.5 lbs and spent a month exactly in the NICU-

Here's the thing- they are now around 11 lbs each, putting them in the 11th percentile for a term 3 month old. They social smile and play, they're starting to roll over, etc. and are right on track for a term 3 month old in every way- it's just trying to get it into everyone's head that they are NOT term 3 month olds but in fact preemies- (including myself some days!) that is proving difficult! Sometimes I feel that even their Dr doesn't pay enough attention to them being 8 weeks early and he just feels like they are caught up and should be treated as such.

Should I just go with it? Are there other things I should be concerned about, or are they truly caught up already???

My twins are actually the same age as yours and were born at 32 + 3. They both weigh around the 10lb mark and are on the 2nd percentile for term babies. They have only just got the social smile thing and are starting to spend more and more time awake. Their consultant is worried or concerned with anything developmentally only with a few medical problems we had with Noah ( he had NEC ).

They sound more advanced than my term baby! That's great to hear they are doing so well. Go with the flow, a lot of ppl wish their preemies could catch up that quick. But don't forget if there is a concern you can always remind the docs. A preemie is a preemie, after all ;)

Id just go with it, they are doing better than my LO was at that age and she was only 5 weeks early.

Personally I'd just kep it in the back of my mind that they are preemies so if they do happen to be delayed with certain things your not worrying unneccesssarily x

Take every development chart and throw it out.

Perhaps dip in every now and then and check they are doing things at least around about their corrected age, and if you then have a concern, take it up with the professionals.

My consultant at the hospital on leaving gave me the best piece of advice. Despite the fact we were given some news which meant she had potential long term problems he said, 'Take her home and enjoy her'. Now that we are in the middle of those problems and they are a worry/frustration, I'm so glad I didn't spend the first 18 months thinking 'but what if'. For that time we had a "normal" child.

The only time I took her being a preemie into account was with health issues.
