Buzz.... Honest opinions pls!

Sorry, I don't like it. Both my boys have very traditional tried and tested names so it's not surprising i don't like it. I feel like you can put a kid in a box giving them a name like that, I mean I try to imagine a doctor buzz or something... It's just not happening. For me safer/ boring is best

I tend to think about when they are older and apply for jobs.

If you were an employer and a resume came across your desk for 'Buzz' would you take it seriously or would you think what most of the people on here have said - Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story...or the character from Home Alone, and think it's slightly weird for a name?

Don't get me wrong, I prefer different names to normal mainstream names but Buzz is next level. Of course, it's completely up to you.

For every person who doesn't like my son's name, there is a person who loves it but at the end of the day I'm the one who has to call him that for the next however many years so I didn't really take anyone else's opinions into account. Do what you want to do.

I'm on the fence, my first thought is buzz lightyear but my second is Buzz Aldrin and I wouldn't mind sharing a name with him!

I don't think it's that 'out there' that it will negatively affect your lo in the future.

Makes me think of Tom Fletchers adorable little boy :haha: xxx

I actually think calling a baby 'Buzz' sounds quite cute  but it does kinda sound like a nickname? Like I'm not sure how it'll be when he's a lot older but then there are so many different names about these days that it'll probably be quite normal by the time they're all older.

I think a little boy called Buzz would be the coolest kid in preschool.....coz toy story is awesome, but after that it's hard to imagine on an older child. It's a sweet nickname though so I'd be tempted to go with a B name and call him buzz for short. I try to imagine a name fit for a baby, child, teen, middle age then oldie!

Hmmm, it's cute and I can definitely imagine it as a nickname. As others have said, I imagine a name at differs stages of a persons life, can you imagine a 15 year old, 32 year old and 50 year old Buzz. I also think about careers and life chances. Choosing a name is such a huge thing and agree another poster that it would be hard for us to judge how the name would be perceived where you live. Of course it only matters what you and your dh think!

...With your daughter's name being Lily, I like Ben/Benjamin to go with it as it's traditional like hers but has the B so you can call him Buzz. :)

I'm not keen i'm afraid. Sounds cute as a child but I can't imagine it on an adult easily when it comes to job interviews etc.

I think it's a cute name for a child but can't imagine a teenager or adult with it so wouldn't use it, I can imagine there'd also be a good possibility that they wouldn't be too thrilled with their name either which would put me off x

I love it

Frank Skinner called his son buzz I think

Yes it does make me think of buzz lighthearted but he's one of the coolest characters ever

Every name had its first outing

So I think if you love it then its fine

There are so many new names out there I think children are far more accepting than adults

if I really liked the name id call him eg. Scott Buzz surname
then when people asked what his namw was id say Buzz but on all his legal documents id have the first name. I know a few people that go with their middle name. My Auntie who iv known my whole life is called Jennie and it wasnt until I went to try and find her in hospital she was actually called Margaret Janet!

I'm not a fan of the name myself, but don't forget that Buzz Aldrin was an astronaut who walked on the moon, and nobody respects him any less for having that name

First person I thought of was the astronaut Buzz Auldrin ! I personally wouldn't have it though!sorry!

Its the sort of name a kid has to suit in my opinion. As in he would get that nn in school and it would stick through life!

Don't get me wrong I actually really like the name but I feel it is a name that comes with a personality and since we don't know what sort of boy he will be I would reserve it as a middle name or find a longer name which can be shortened.

I guess in a similar sense I adore the name Rufus for a boy but my OH doesn't feel he is 'of that style' of name. He thinks its too eccentric for his son?!? I sort of get what he means but I also told him I don't care that will be his name :haha:

Anyway I have rambled on and I think in the end nothing I said means anything because if you love it you should use it!

Buzz is not the astronaut's real name. He had a more traditional name to put on his job application! I'm not a fan. I think it's better as a nickname and then he can choose to use it when he gets older.
