I'm using Cow and gate comfort milk and dr browns bottles with level 2 teat (medium flow).

LO is struggling to get milk out, she takes about 45 mins to take a 4oz bottle whereas before on normal milk it took her 10 mins. Sometimes she will even suck at it for ages and when I look, she's had nothing!

Tried next teat size up and she seemed to have tummy ache after so am guessing she took it too quick!

I make bottles up with boiled cooled water and leave them on kitchen side ready to use, when LO is due feed I add formula and shake. The milk seems to leave crystal like particles though on the bottle?? Is this coz comfort milk needs heating? LO has been happy on room temp milk and it makes life so much easier.

With my daughter before I heated the comfort milk and used Aptimal do this is all new to me.

Anyone advise????

Thx ladies

i dont use comfort milk but id be inclined to half fill your bottles with cooled boiled water then when you ready to make one up to give her, boil the kettle and fill the other half up before adding the formula as it sounds like its maybe not disolving quickly enough. I do that with my normal milk and it works a treat as is the right temperature for her too. x

(p.s im not sure if its the same as the normal stuff but some people suggest you should always use boiling water as it kills the bacteria in the formula.. My HV told me to ignore that and do whatever was best for us but not to pre-prepare with formula already in) x

^ specialised milks can be made up differently, often with cooled, refrigerated boiled water

When I used comfort milk I made them 'properly' with boiled water, fast cooled, refrigerated then heated as needed. Never had problems with Lo being unable to drink it!

I do this too but using sma comfort with dr brown bottles and size 2 teat. No probs. it sounds like mayb the formula isn't dissolving and might be getting clogged in the teat so hard for your lo to suck? I know when j make up my bottles I have to really stir (if I shake the bottle explodes lol) for the forumla to mix properly! X
