I've finally had my c section confirmed and booked by the consultant and l'm 2nd on the list. We have to be at the hospital for 0730 and they generally start the 1st one at 0830. Anyone have any idea what time I could go down to have ds? I'm going to ask at pre-op as I forgot to ask whilst booking. It's only because we may have to arrange for someone to pick her up from pre-school and want to have everything in place so that it's not all a shock to her and we can explain that this person will be picking you up today.

I would just call back and ask, as different hospitals may have different procedures and timelines.

I'm in the US, so it may be different, but I had to be at the hospital about 2 hours before my scheduled c-section time. I think the procedure itself took about 45 minutes, but that includes everything, from spinal, to them getting you set up with the drape/monitors, the actual procedure, checking baby, etc. The c-section itself was very quick, baby was born <5 minutes after they began.

I would say definitely get someone organised to collect her even though you are second on the list that can change with emergencies and other such things x

I was 2nd on the list and i had her at 12:20 but not back on the ward until about 1:30-2pm ish. They can never be exact with times as emergencies come in or things can delay you you wont know until the day if there running on time or not.

I was first on the list with Sophie and surgery didn't start until about 2pm.

It's really unpredictable. I'm first on the list at 8am but I've also been an emcs that bumped 2 planned csections off till much later with my first. It depends...

Thank you. I will ask at pre-op on 7th. I have someone lined up. She's going to after school club this week and next on the Thursday so she's used to it that day of the week. That will give us some extra time to play with plus my standby person wouldn't be able to get to her until half 4 so she would have to go to after school club anyway.

I had my section booked for 1pm, and there ended up being 3 (3!!!) emergency sections that happened before mine. I ended up not going in until a little after 7pm, and my son was born at 7:45pm. Always have a back-up plan :)

Around here, it depends on how many other women com in and are in labour/need an EMCS. You are last on the priority list.

I had to call at 7am morning of. I think I had to call back. Was told to come in at 11. Didn't have my son til almost 4.

They told me that some with morning appointments end up getting bumped til the next day so be prepared in case that should happen to you!

Maybe it's different where you are though.

The last thing you need to be worrying about is how to get your LO home from school. And you are right - her life is about to be so radically different you don't want her sibling experience starting off with her getting a shock at an unexpected change in routine. For me, I'd make a plan to have her fetched so that you are completely in control of that part of your day (which is what I'll be doing for my DD and DS when I have my CS)! Good luck!!
