C-section hospital stay?

Huggybear that is amazing!
Chuck I also think the hospital stay will be torturous! It doesn't hel that I work there, different unit, but same idea. I spend enough time there without having to stay a half of a week there! Some of you have some very short stays, hoping LO & I will be well enough to go home when I am ready and I am not stuck thee based on some insurance requirement!

If you can get out and get some TLC in an MLU then do it its fab. The one I went to had a double bed and no visiting hours so hubby stayed with us in the same bed, they let us order chinese food in and use their plates and cutlery! Brill.

I had a crash csection on a Tuesday and went home on Friday, so 4 days total. It was great to leave the hospital but I found getting in and out of a normal bed/sitting up to nurse my LO, very difficult for a couple of days. Walking a lot helped the healing though. I felt like me again pretty quickly - by the 1 week mark I could bend, and was basically completely mobile and that was on just reg strength Tylenol. Just make sure you have lots of support to help you out over the first little while at home! All the best :)

I went in Wednesday morning at 6:30am, emergency c-section at 2:21pm and I was home Saturday morning. I wanted to go home Friday but they wouldn't let me leave until my (independant) midwife had come in to check me and she was busy at another birth.

I was out of recovery to my room about 8:00 pm on Monday, and went home yesterday. Since my LO is in the NICU, they gave me an extra day. So I didn't have her in my room, my room was private, and DH didn't leave my side - he slept in my room every night.

I was in too much pain to go home any earlier than Wednesday, and that would have been pushing it. I could have managed Thursday with no problems. Not sure if the classical made it a little harder, I didn't get out of bed u til 6 am Tuesday, so about 12 hours after surgery.

I was much more comfy at home last night, but it's hard not to be able to just walk down and see her.

Aunt bug I dont remember I asked, did they do both cuts vertical or just the internal? I see my OB on Tuesday so I hope he will be able to better tell me what his plan is! The classical cut is supposed to be much harder to recover from but I think when the external cut is also vertical is worse. That way it goes through more muscles.

When does Taylor get to come home? I hope soon!!

They made the normal bikini cut externally and had to cut vertically the whole length of the uterus to get her out. My doc didn't know that they would have to do classical until they got in there, just told me it was a possibility. She actually had to cut further once she got in there, Taylor was wedged in tight and the cord was wrapped around her neck twice, she would have never survived an induction.

My doc said recovery should be about the same, but I can never have a vbac and need to wait at least a year before getting pregnant again, all ok with me.

I'm up and around well, walking up and down stairs, going to the hospital, so recovery hasn't been that bad. Tuesday was definitely the worst, pain started getting better on Wednesday and is totally manageable now.

All well worth it for my little Taylor Tot :D

i had an emcs friday lunchtime with lots of complications and almost a litre of bloodloss and they sent me home the next day, i would recommend staying in if they let you as i felt dreadful when i came home, im due again in 3 and a half weeks and planning on a VBAC but if it does end in emcs i will be asking to stay in longer this time

Angi that is a good amount of blood loss! I am anemic and have been low during pregnancy my doc said that b/c blood volume is increased by 50% during pregnancy your body handles the blood los pretty well. I was worried about having to get blood after surgery b/c I have been low! Good luck with your next delivery!

I also asked my doc when I could go home, he said 2-3 days (still not sure if that includes the actual surgical day!) but he said I have to be walking, passing gas, and eating normally and then I can go. I have packed up stool softeners & benefiber mix since I have some issues with constipation anyhow. I want to make sure I can take them right away so I can go home when I am ready whenever that is!

DarlingMe, they gave me colace in the hospital, still took me forever. I didn't poop till the last day.

After my emergency c-section on Thurs I was discharged Wed the following week. Then I had to be readmitted, due to a nasty infection from the surgery, Friday and stayed 5 more days. It really sucked since they didnt even know what was causing the infection she wasnt aloud to stay with me very much. She pretty much lived in the nursery the first week of her life

I had my c on a tuesday, had some additional meds for high BP so didn't get up until thursday, pooped on thursday, went home on friday! Not too bad. I will say, though, the recovery has been tougher than I expected. I am on day 11 post delivery and I am still having some pretty significant soreness. I have resumed most activities but sitting up in bed and even walking up stairs is slightly painful.

There is something that I wish I had known that no one told me about... trapped gas. OMG it's like you're having a heart attack. I thought I was dying in the hospital and when I went to pull myself up in bed I thought I had dislocated me shoulder. The pain has HORRIBLE. Be prepared for the trapped gas and to even take it home with you! I am still having some pain from it. The only thing that helps me is to get up and walk.

Good luck!!!!

I was in for 5 days including the surgery day. I had a private room with cable TV so it was great. That was 10 months ago, now I will have to go in again in 16 weeks time & the length of my stay will now depend on how well my baby will cope being away from me. He is a real mummys boy and my husband and I are worried how he will handle it.

Am booking into the hospital next week. Is a small country hospital this time around and I will be almost guaranteed a 4-bed room to myself and am hoping the hospital will let my husband and baby boy stay in there with me at least for a couple of nights. On the other hand I really could use the time to relax with just me and new baby???

I had an emcs 9pm on the sunday and went home tuesday morning, that was with some severe sickness after surgery and inflammation of the blood. As long as you show you are able to look after yourself and baby and baby is healthy they usually don't push you to stay.

I only had two nights in after my emergency section.

I was offered a third but declined. Couldn't wait to get home x

I had Freya the early hours of Monday morning by EMCS and was allowed home the Wednesday lunchtime. Couldn't wait to get out of there!
