I had a section with my DS as he was breech. I am now trying to decide what to do for this baby.

I have always wanted a natural birth, pictured a lovely water birth, even did the hypnobirthing for DS and was devastated when I had to have a section.

I have been given info to read ready for my 20 week scan to decide what I want. I am quite shocked at the stats on successful vbac tbh. Only 6 out of 10 are successful and all things that could go wrong. I know scar rupture is rare but it seems there is more to it and risks are higher for other things to go wrong which I am not sure why and will be asking the consultant this.

Another thing is I am due xmas day!!!! With a section I know baby would get a better birthday than if I went into labour which it could be on any of the 5 major days over that period.

Having said this I still feel cheated out of labour, contractions and birth.

I am so confused x

I had a VBAC almost three weeks ago and it was a fantastic experience. I'll try to link to my birth story, but all I can advise is to do your research and make a decision that is the best one for you and your family. Most VBAC's are successful and the chances of uterine rupture are less likely to occur than one of the more common labour issues like placenta rupture or prolonged fetal distress, it's just that after a cs most medics focus on uterine rupture! Have a look at the NCT and NICE website for info on VBACs and CS's.

For me, the recovery this time has been so much easier (I was discharged from the hospital after 6 hours) and the birth itself was wonderful to experience.

The risks for a c-section are higher compared to your risks for VBAC, especially if you've only had one c-section. I've seen some good stats on this.
I would go for a VBAC without a doubt, though.

Here is a site with information about VBAC risks: https://vbacfacts.com/quick-facts/

Essentially, you chance for a successful VBAC is about 75% and VBACs "have lower maternal complication rates than planned repeat cesareans." The risk for uterine rupture, if you have a low transverse scar, is only 0.4%. Just make sure you aren't induced if you plan to have a VBAC, because inductions increase the risk of uterine rupture.

I had a succesful vbac after only 15 months and I do not regret it! The reason for ur section(breech) is totally gonna be different so no need to worry it wouldnt be succesful!

I had a VBAC with my last baby. I had a c-section with my 2nd because he was breech and premature. My VBAC was AWESOME (except for the tearing).

Srrme, same here.. I had horrible tearing and I'm still very sore 6days pp but it was still worth it because I now know what is real labor and this is the way our body is supposed to give birth! Also, after 2csections if you want a 3rd baby, the risks are even higher for rupture even during pregnancy..

I had a vbac 13 months ago and I'm so pleased I did! The chance of a successful vbac is 75-80% which is the same as a first time Mum having a vaginal delivery ( stats will vary on area but this is good indication). There are risks with any delivery so it's weighing up which one is right for you. As a pp said the risk of scar rupture is very low and even those that do tend to be a small slow tear And you go for emcs. I'm very glad I had my vbac. I did tear but it's all healed fine. My recovery from vbac was so Mich easier and quicker than section.
