I post a thread yesterday trying to describe symptoms from my c-section wound and after being seen today by my GP I can now explain myself a bit better...

My wound is over granulating - this means it is over healing - at the sides. I also have an infection there and some stitches comming out... GP cut away the end of some stitching today and it may loosen off more, just need to wait and see. I have 2 lots of antibiotics for the infection and for the over granulation I was treated with silver nitrate.

Has anyone had this before? I asked what the cause of the over granulation can be, Gp said can just be bad luck there is no reason. Also if the silver nitrate doesnt work the only other way to resolve is via surgery. Hopefully it works, ive heard it is effective treatment but would love to hear from anyone who has suffered the same thing. Thanks x

I had a small section of mine, around 5mm which was not right in hospital
When I came home it got infected and bled on and off for weeks. 13 weeks postpartum I went back to the drs to see if they could put a stitch in it
Instead she cauterised it, it fell off the next day and has been perfect ever since

Unfortunately it's just one of those things and there is nothing you could have done any different

Hope yours heals soon

u know i just googled over granulating cesarean section there and came accross ur thread, then came here to see if i had any replies and here u are :) Thank you for sharing... was it silver nitrate they used? x

I'm not sure what it was I'm afraid but could well have been. I wished I'd asked them to cauterise it sooner. Did you have stitches, staples or the two beads?

errmm disolvable stitches i think... I think with these the problem is that the knots at either end can be disliked by ur body hense the over granulation... plus i was on antibiotics before it happened for infection of the wound, so that may have helped my body to over heal. Just hope the silver nitrate works and i dont need to go back to surgery !!

Yours does sound more problematic than mine. Mine was actually about a third of the way in from my left so I presume they can happen anywhere.
How long ago did you have your section?

different area but I had the silver nitrate on my breast. I had to have two mastitus abscesses surgically drained and the wound has to be packed from the inside out to heal (yes it is as gross as it sounds) and I over healed. The silver nitrate is just a little stick like you use on warts and veruccas - it doesnt hurt when they apply it at all and the flesh just goes a bit grey/black. HTH

4wks ago i had this section but i also had a section with my dd 4 yrs ago...
Vicky thanks for sharing ur experience. Does the flesh go back to a normal colour? My dr said the scar will probably be thicker in that area after using the silver nitrate but its important to heal it so needs to be done... does ur skin look thicker there?x

Again, slightly different but my LO had granulation with her cord stump and they used silver nitrate on her. The dr wanted me to do it but I refused so had the nurse do it for me as I am a wimp! Bubs didn't even notice, it took 2 treatments but was all sorted, very straightforward. It was a little stick that they dab on the area affected and all done.

As said previously, skin goes a grey colour but will return to normal. Can't really comment on the skin being thicker as it is on her belly button, sorry. Only advise nurse gave was to put vaseline around the area afterwards to prevent drying the skin out but that might have been advise specific to a baby so check beforehand x

different area but i had granulations on my the stitched from my third degree tear....i had the silver nitrate to burn it off, and so far things have been ok, it stung like hell for the first week, but it seems to have done the trick now.x

difficult to tell atm as the scar is red still and thick yes but the abscess was abtou the size of an apple so not expecting it to disappear - want me to post a pic?
