hey guys so i have a elective c-section booked for the 15th i am extreemly nervous and read up about it everyday! lol my midwife came round for my birth plan the other day and completly forgot to ask her what i wanted to! (pregnancy brain!) so if anyone could share thier experiences with me that would be fab good or bad i want to be able to expect all scenarios! also how long were you in for and how much could you do etc and was it hard to find a comfy feeding posisition as i am going to try breast feeding .. and last of all when you have had the surgery i no you have to go into a recovery room? but for how long and are you aloud visitors there as all the family are extreemly excited and havnt the heart to say they have to wait until i am on the ward after the recovery unless im not in recovery for long? sorry for length just very nervous and its getting ever closer! xx

I had an emergency section and was in recovery for a few hours after. I don't think you are usually in that long but I had a high temperature and a bad reaction to the spinal so they kept monitoring me. I don't think they allow visitors into the recovery room so they will probably have to wait until you are on the ward and then you are limited to 2 visitors at a time. Hospital stay was 3 nights, they keep you in bed for 24 hours with a catheter but they make you get out of bed the next day, even if its just to sit on a chair or shuffle to the toilet. Breast feeding was no problem for me. The main thing I remember was feeling a bit stooped - I couldn't straighten my back for a few days as everything felt tight. It might be an idea to get some more pillows in for when you get home. I couldn't lie flat so had to sleep propped up. Also, remember that it is surgery and your body has to recover so don't do too much too soon or you will set yourself back. When they say no lifting, vacuuming etc they mean it !

I have had 2 emergency sections now! This time round was a great experience. I was in recovery for a few hours but was allowed as many visitors as I wanted then (where as ward is just 2 at a time). I was up and about the next morning once they took my catheter out and have had very little pain at all. I was back to normal (pretty much!) within a few days. Im not planning any more children but if I did I would be very happy to have a section again, the situations of my sections have been scary (as both have been emergency) but the actual section themselves and the recovery have been great

I had an unplanned section but no rush or anything as baby wasnt in distress...dont assume you will get the things you know can be done in a CS.

For instance I assumed....
they would tell me what they were doing- nope
they would tell me when baby was coming - nope
they would show me baby over the curtian when he was delivered - nope
they would tell me APGAR scores - nope.

Tell the team what you want or they may not bother, you are allowed to ask to have your own music playing and for them to shut the hell up so baby hears your voice first, to have the curtian dropped enough for you to see baby delivered, just ask.

Have a google of 'gentle cesarean' and see how a planned CS can be.

i had emergency c section- my family were allowed in as it was 9pm at night and no one else there... but normally they don't. my LO was born at 18.56 and must have been in recovery by 20.00 and i went to ward at 2am.... but as its elective you'll prob be much quicker.

I had an emergency c section, staright after the section I was wheeled to a recovery room (which was 2 curtained off sections of a corridor!) to have skin to skin and BF. About 30 mintes later I was taken back to the room I had laboured in. I stayed there from 3pmd > 9pm then wheeled around to the ward whilst OH went home

Recovery was painful for me,and moving about was hard (had to scoot up the bed to sit up using my feet and hand on either side of bed!) BF was fine - I used a V pillow and was quite comfortable doing so.

I moved to a Mother and Baby Unit the same day then was dishcarged the next day.

The only advice I have is do not exert yourself, exept all the help you can get and dont rush recovery! I did and recovery took twice as long!

xx

I had an elective section, my story is in my siggy if you want a read :flower:

It's nowhere near as scary as I thought it would be! It was probably the most positive experience i've ever had at a hospital!

i remember for my c-section the doctors were talking about what hunting lodge they go to during turkey season. ugh. i just felt like a piece of meat there on the table.
i *highly* suggest telling them to zip it. i mean, you will only give birth to that special baby once- you know?
