Calling all Fur-parents!

Someone told FOB to pop him on the nose but not too hard. Also said that holding his mouth until he calms down?

You shouldn't hit him, you don't want him to fear you.

Check out this page: "How To Stop A Puppy From Biting"

I dont hit him...FOB did pop him on the nose today and I told him not to do that again. I think I will try the putting your thumb under his tongue and the other finger under his mouth trick.

Sounds good! Good luck!

Playing with other puppies is also a good way to learn that biting is bad because it hurts! The puppy training/play groups they have at some big pet stores like Petco are good for that.

I'm a latecomer to the thread but I can't resist sharing pics of my precious furbaby Ember! She's a mutt - half Labrador retriever, a quarter boxer and a quarter pitbull. She's 13 months old and I've had her since 5 1/2 weeks old (known her since she was born). I love her so much, and she is so sweet. She is very hyper but that definitely comes with being half lab! She will have to learn how to behave around the baby, just like any dog. She loves laying on my belly :) I think when Emily gets older they will be best friends!

Ah what a sweet looking dog jess, thank you for sharing.

The *worst* punishment we can give ours is to make her have a time out away from every one. Miss Up In Everyone's Business HATES it. LOL. But it works. Like GingerPanda said, ignoring them or stopping the playing/petting when the dog behaves badly works very well, too. When he continues to nibble, do you then give him attention? (Even something like saying "ouch!" and looking at him?) I don't think holding his muzzle would work... I would imagine he would start to fight that and you don't really want to be fighting him.
As far as the leash... That was our biggest struggle. We stopped in our tracks every. single. time. she pulled. It took weeks (for a VERY smart dog) to get it. And we didn't get a lot of exercise. But they pull because they're trying to get to something. If pulling gets them nowhere at all, they figure it out.
Playdates are the best. Mel goes to doggy daycare when we can fit it in the budget. It's truly the best thing we've ever done for her. 2-3 dogs playing = fun. But she recovers in a couple of hours. A day of 10-20 dogs playing? She's out for the night. :D

And.... Ours managed to get into something and we had messes from both ends all over when we got home. Ugh. Poor girl. Can't figure out what she found as the trash she got into had nothing but paper and a few UNeaten sanitizing wipes. And a yogurt container. Nothing that should have triggered that much fun.

Thanks! I think she's pretty cute myself ;)

Anyone watching the Puppy Bowl this year? I'm not a big football fan so this is my 2nd year watching the puppybowl...sooo cute! Kitties at half time, hedgehog cheer leaders, and hampters in the blimp lol.

No cable TV. Just internet. And Netflix. And Hulu.

I wonder if you could Hulu it...it's probably worth watching for at least 10-15mins, it's pretty cute I think. Just puppies playing with balls and each other.

I remember seeing commercials for it on Animal Planet when I lived with my parents years ago. But I never watched it. Usually because the Discovery Channel would start showing something awesome like "Walking With Dinosaurs".

Hey ladies! Just a question for those with cats...how long do you think it's okay to leave a cat by itself?

OH and I will be going to visit his family next month (about 5 hours away) and we usually go for a week, but OH is trying to save up his vacation time so we may only go for 4 or 5 days this time...do you think it would be okay to leave Soup that long? If we gave her fresh litter before we went and filled our dogs big food dishes with her food and left out a lot of water? It's just we don't really have anyone here who could come check on her...and for a 5 hour drive I like to go for more than a couple days since it's kind of a pain. We can't bring her so that's not an option.

Just wondering what you ladies think :)

I don't ever leave the cats longer than 1 night even then when we get back they seem quite upset and follow us meowing for next 24 hours! Also 4-5 days without freshly run water really isn't fair.

I have two cats. The longest I've ever left ours unattended was 3 nights. I left them with full food and water dishes, the kind with the containers on top that gravity-dispense. If I'll be gone any longer than that, I have a friend come check on them every other day.

They do hate being left alone, and (like Incubus said) they will follow us around crying for a day, even if the friend is keeping an eye on them. I'm a SAHW, so my cats are spoiled and used to me always being here. But they get over it with extra love.
