Calling all Fur-parents!

Well we had to skip Percy's 9 week shots (long story but mostly OH's fault) and he is getting his 12 wks shots late....and he seems to be sick so taking him to the vet today (was planning to take him tomorrow to catch up on his vax)

:haha:

Mine are scared of everyone but me and DH, so they're always kind of panicky when we get home. DH usually goes in first, bounding down the stairs, and scares the crap out of them. It's almost like they forget who he is after a bit. But they never forget me, and usually stay underfoot for a day or so, then they're too cool for me again.

I'm sure your girls will be happy to see you!

Well I guess I was dreaming that the girls would run towards us at the sounds of our voices :cloud9: Eh...No! It doesn't work that way with cats lol.

Gigi came out first, after only a minute or two...I kinda knew she would. OH calls her the attention whore lol But she was kinda skittish, lettting us pet her then running off. The worse part about her is that she is our most vocal cat (part-siamese) and she meowed through most of the nigth, so I didn't sleep very well :nope: I don't know how long this is going to last, she did it for about a week and a half when I first moves into this apartment and also when I first got her. Adjustment issues? Well, I have ear plugs, I just need to remember to use them. Ignoring her will probably work better than shushing her or water-spraying her.

Sadie came out from the bedroom then hid under the couch lol. She eventually came out no problems.

Sophia! Well I couldn't find her at first and our apartment isn't THAT big! So I was just starting to worry when I found her hiding in the closet behind some clothes....I got a good HISS! lol But I know she is all talk, so I picked her up and OH and I gave her what we call "forced love" - lots of hugs and kisses even though she is trying to get away lol.

We put some catnip down and within 20min everything was back to normal...except for Gigi's extra meowing.

But glad to be home with my girls.

We got another dog! Her name is Sophie & she's the perfect addition to our little family. She is a Jack Russell/Dachshund, she turned one on Feb 7th, and we rescued her March 1st.

She has an issue though, and I'm hoping you lovely ladies can help us out. She REFUSES to pee outside on a leash. We live in an apartment for now, so we have to walk her on a leash. Whether we take her out for 5 minutes or 45 minutes, she will NOT pee. But then she'll walk her merry butt upstairs and pee on my carpet. What is her problem!

Such a cutie pie! Sorry I don't have any advice on the weeing inside, I'm a cat owner, never had a dog. But I hope you can get some help soon, that must be frustrating!

She may not be house-trained?

But with a JR/Dachs mix, you've got double trouble. Jacks are known for getting super excited and rambunctious, as well as being super smart but stubborn. Weenies are notorious for getting super excited and peeing everywhere out of excitement. My sister and her husband had a Dachshund when they first got married, and he would get SOOOO excited when people came over, he would run around peeing as he went. I understand that this seems to be pretty typical behavior for them. They had to replace their carpets multiple times. (Unfortunately, he got stolen from their home a couple of years ago. He was an awesome dog, even if he couldn't control his bladder.)

I would enroll her in obedience training, I think. You could also ask your vet about it.

Well, it was made clear that she wasn't house-trained, and we knew that when we got her, but we've potty-trained a lot & we knew that one of us would always be at the house taking care of her. We figured we could handle it.

HOWEVER, it's hard to potty-train a dog when she won't go pee in the space she's supposed to. Unless she's off a leash, she won't pee outside. Clear & simple. And that's what I can't understand how to get her to go! We've sat outside for 40+ minutes & nothing. As soon as she touches carpet, BOOM! Piss.

We're moving into our house soon, so hopefully when she has instant access to the outside it won't be as much of a problem. She seems to not have any problems with "excitement pee" and she can actually hold it for 12+ hours! Little thing must have a big bladder!

Thanks for the help, we're going to take her to obedience training with our other one. :)

All these doggy pics, you guys are making me want a doggy! We just dont have the space currently and I don't know if I would have the patience to train :dohh:

How would your kitties even react? :haha:

I have no desire for a dog. But I really wouldn't mind a couple of bearded dragons. They're soooo awesome!

GingerPanda - I think they would love another body in the house to boss around! lol

Hotbump - I see you've gotten an u/s pic of your baby! Awwww so cute!

Thanks LillyTame :flower:

Does anyone have any tips on training your puppy not to jump on you? Percy jumps on me every time he sees me and he is getting so heavy that I almost loose my balance :/

Here's one from September last year. Both my babies!

He's jumping on you for attention. So when he jumps, completely ignore him. Just turn around so he falls and pretend he doesn't even exist. Family needs to be super consistent with this. When he DOESN'T jump, then he gets attention and maybe a treat.

Does he mostly do it when someone comes home?

You did say he was doing well with his obedience training. This is something they should be training him on there, not just tricks.

We have been training him, decided not to take him to a trainer. I do think he does it for attention and I have been ignoring him when he does it but he is still doing it for some reason  My past dogs usually learned by me ignoring them not to jump but for some reason Percy sees it as like a challenge to jump more.
