Camping holidays

We make sure when we zip up the tent, the zip is right at the top so the kids can't reach it.

I suppose you could buy a small padlock and put it through the zips (if it has a double zip iykwim?) but by putting the zips out of reach, we have had no issues.

During the day whilst we are out, our tent is just zipped up, no security and we have had no problems with theft.

ETA: When looking at tents, I would go for one that is designed for 2 more people. i.e. ours sleeps 6 but in all honesty it would be cramped with 6 people in it but it's perfect for 4. There's plently of space to move about without tripping over each other. As a pp said, if you have a GoOutdoors near you, have a look at all the tents set up to get an idea of space.

Thanks ladies :flow: writing down my list now of what I will need
And thanks for the tip about the picnic blanket! I was considering buying a little table and chair for LO but may aswell just take a blanket I have plenty of them!

Can I ask what sort of things you ladies cook on the camping stove? I'm just getting a basic one.

Ok this question might sound a little stupid but ill ask anyway cos I'm a worrier and can't help worrying about everything! .... I'm just wondering if camping is safe enough for a LO? As there will be no lock on the tent when we are asleep, I'm worried I won't be able to sleep all week for worrying about LO being safe!

X

Fasten some little bells (like off a cats collar) on your zips and keep them at the top, that way LO can't escape and you'll hear them being opened. I also fasten a little carabiner thingie on the inside so they can't be opened from the outside. One of us always sleeps in the room with LO anyway.

I use this kind of camping stove https://www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/...p-stove.html?gclid=CP_knb-v6bcCFVHMtAodo0IA_g 2-3 canisters is ample for us for 2 weeks, they are easy to pick up everywhere if you run out.

Ours is a Go Outddors tent, Zenobia 6 and its survived 2 seasons so far. Can't fault it for the price it's great! We got it in a package deal with the carpet and porch.

A nice campsite is https://www.winghall.co.uk/

From my experience of camping with friends kids the problems they have is actually waking up their kids as they are so comfy!!! :haha:

Bacon, BBQ beans, bananas with choc buttons mmmmm

lindseymw are there any faults with your tent? Looking at it on gooutdoors and looks great!

Would definitely recommend ours. Can't really think of any faults with it.

Easy to put up/take down (if you read the instructions! unlike my DH). Takes us about 20-30mins, bearing in mind it's our 1st tent and we've used it twice. It has lots of living space, which I like. Plenty of space for all of our gear (we don't travel light).

If you can wait, they're likely to reduce the price further. We got it last year for £160!

This is a fantastic site for family's with LO's the facilities are second to non, underfloor heated bathrooms with massive sinks to bath babies/toddlers!! It's in St Ives https://polmanter.co.uk/

Wow what an amazing location! I wish St Ives wasnt so far :(

If the weather allows we are taking Ivy here for the weekend for her birthday. Beautiful camping spot, playground, farm, soft play and lovely restaurant - including a breakfast camper's menu! Not really roughing it like we prefer but I can't wait

Just seen on your other thread, you're from up north.

Depending on where 'up north' you are, these are two sites I have been:

Northumberland:
https://www.meadowhead.co.uk/WarenHome.aspx

Great location for Alnwick Castle, Farne Islands, Bamburgh Castle. Nice campsite too.

Yorkshire:
https://www.woodhousewinksley.com/

Near to Ripon, Brimham Rocks, Fountains Abbey, Forbidden Corner, York. Very nice campsite, has wooded area and lakes to walk to.

I'm from near Middlesbrough & takes about an hour to get both campsites from my house. Obviously Alnwick will be closer to you!

If you get nice weather, the Ripon campsite would be great. Fountains Abbey + Gardens is a must if you get a nice day (no cover if it's raining though!) as well as Brimham Rocks. Both are only 3/4 miles away from Campsite.

There is also Lightwater Valley (theme park) nearby. I haven't been for years so not sure what it's like now but might be worth a look.

How did you get on with camping? Did your OH like it? :flower:
