We're having christmas lunch just the three of us at home this year. We've never done christmas dinner before and I'm thinking about how to make the table look pretty. Think I might have a mooch round dunelm for ideas. Can anyone help with what I need? I also want some kind of pretty centre piece for the table but not a candle as I have a real phobia of them! I really want it to look Christmassy but the table is in the kitchen and the tree will be in the living room so we won't have the tree to add to the Christmas atmosphere. Help!

i did my first christmas dinner last year (normally go to my mums), i bought a beautiful table runner from ebay red/gold with gold led lights in it. Also had gold charger plates and gold candles, not lit because of the kids and gold material napkins with gold napkin rings, it looked lovely and cost around £30 for everything and can be reused every year x hope this gives you some ideas

My wine glasses are blue so I'm planning blue & silver for the table. I have a lovely silver table runner and need to look for a long blue (preferably disposable) tablecloth. Instead of buying place mats and coasters to match I just cover the ones I have with crepe paper as it works out much cheaper. I don't do candles at the dinner table either as I'm terrified the boys will burn themselves so I'll probably just get a vase or a bowl and fill it with blue & silver baubles. Crackers will be blue or silver and that's about it. There are 11 of us this year and by the time all the food's out there's not much room left on the table for decorations!

This is all presuming I have time to get round to doing it, otherwise it'll just be a mish-mash of whatever we have already :haha:

What about Christmas Wreath in the middle with some battery operated lights to go around it. A table runner, some sprinkles charger plates, crackers, place cards (make your own lovely designs around) tie around stork of apple etc...

I don't really decorate the table. I think I might make the effort this year though. My mum always decorated the table with her christmas ornaments and candles with tinsel round them in the middle of the table, and a cracker in everyones place. xxx

I have a red table cloth, and a red one with Mickey Mouse on it... Not decided which to use, I've also bought a white table runner with holly on it. I also have a teddy bear table runner on the other unit in there. I bought a white bowl with some pot-pourri for the centre of the table, and I also have a lot of candles. I have my wine glasses out, and a nativity set in there. I absolutely love it.. I have a single tier cake stand set up in there ready :D

You can get lengths of Ivy and spray it gold. Add a few pine cones warmed in the oven to make them open up.

We don't have any ornaments on the table as we usually put all the food into serving dishes so there's never any space left between those and glasses/bottles- just something to bear in mind! We'd usually go the classy route with chargers plates and posh napkin rings but this year we've decided to make it a bit more child friendly as it's our first one with LO. I got some cute/cartoony Christmas place mats from B&M (£1.99 for four mats and coasters), some matching napkin rings and santa salt/pepper shakers (think they were about £1 each). I'm just going to get a thick disposable paper tablecloth and napkins and some crackers to go with them, and that'll be it done. Not particularly grown up but I wanted it to look fun and appealing to LO. We have a kitchen/diner too so I've also bought a big wall sticker from B&M to go on the wall above the table, it's a santa sleigh and reindeers about 2 feet tall plus a load of snowflakes for around it, so it fills the space above the table nicely and was only £2. I've also bought some snowflake stickers for the kitchen cabinets, some big Christmas fridge magnets from poundland (you arrange them to make either a snowman, penguin or santa about 2 feet tall) and will be putting some tinsel around the clock and extractor hood to christmassy the room up a bit for the photos :haha:

We have a kitchen/diner too but for Christmas we will be moving the table into the living room. I have a silver christmas table cover with charger plates and silver crackers. The centre piece is the turkey on big serving platter surrounded by all the other serving dishes.

Aww thank you for the ideas girls. Didn't think of charger plates and had completely forgotten crackers. :dohh: will definitely be paying a visit to b&m. So excited :happydance:
