Well... Went for my scan yesterday and as I already said in my previous post, all is well. The thing is, after my scan the doc (hospital) told me to go to my local docs tomorrow (today), what they didn´t tell me is that I had to go this morning!!! I thought they meant any time today (I live in Spain, language barrier) So, I was working this morning and went this afternoon and was told No!! I now can´t go til monday. The problem is that on the letter they gave me to take with me says on it to have a blood test within 48 hours of the scan!!! They didn´t give me any injections or anything like that so I don´t understand why it needs to be within 48 hours. Can anyone help clear this up? Now I´m worried, what if I go on monday? will it make a difference??? HELP!!!! :hissy:

:hugs: That's awful I can't believe they turned you away. Not sure why they wanted the blood tests done within 48 hours, is there any way you can call the place you received the scan from and talk to them? Maybe they can get you in with the local doctor today?

Try not to worry, what was the blood test for? Could you call the hospital and explain what happened?

It was for Downs Syndrome I think (triple test??) Been trying to call hospital all afternoon and constantly engaged!!

Nope, they do all the blood tests at the same time in the morning, it´s like a conveyor belt, one in, one out, I didn´t realise they only do it between certain times in the day :dohh:

Well if it's your triple test I don't know why they're doing it so early because I thought it was done around 16 weeks. 15 weeks being the earliest and 17 being the latest???? to get the most accurate results. You are meant to have a scan before hand to confirm your dates but it doesn't need to be done within 48 hours. Any time after is fine.

As far as I'm aware (from the NICE guidelines) the triple test can be done as a stand-alone test between 14 and 20 weeks usually. There are a set of blood tests which can be associated with a nuchal scan called the combined test which is done between 11 and 14 weeks. Found some info on babyworld https://www.babyworld.co.uk/information/baby/special_needs/downs.asp which says the blood tests can be done separately. I'm guessing they will probably get a more accurate estimate of your Downs risk if its done within 48 hours, but I'm sure the tests will still be useful on monday or maybe the can offer one of the later tests in addition? Sorry I can't be more help

I wonder if they are doing it to see if your HCG levels are in line with how far you are according to the scan?? With HCG going up every 48hrs.....probably not but just an idea....

For the triple tests I don't think it'd matter if you waited more than 48 hours to have them done....

Thanks, this really helped :hugs:

Well... Thanks girls, everything seems to be clearer now, OH got through to the hospital and they told me to go in at 8 am on monday to have it done so it seems not to be too critical that it´s done within 48 hours. It´s definately a test for Downs but I´m not too worried now as they told me at my scan that I am low risk anyway. So thanks again everyone, sorted :hugs:

I had my blood test on Monday, I have my scan next friday :)

I glad your scan went well, bless first you had trouble getting the scan and then this I honestly have no idea why you'd have to have a blood test, have you had your hiv,syphilis blood tests yet??

Take care sweetie:hugs::hugs:

Yes had them done at ten weeks, apparently if you have a blood test along with the NT scan then the results are said to be 90% accurate, instead of 75% with just the scan, although everything was fine they put me at 11 + 2 which I´m not happy about, my dates aren´t wrong so I don´t know whether to put my ticker back or not, or if the baby´s growth will catch up, what do you guys think??? That would mean I´d be 11 + 4 now :hissy:
