Hi everyone my husband and I have been trying for a little less than a year about 9 months or so. Anyway this most recent cycle has been different. I don't want to get my hopes up but I have been showing some weird signs. Like for example I am 9 days PO and for the past few days I have showed some normal symptoms like sore breasts and cramping in my lower stomach and nausea. It's more sever this time but I know not to get my hopes up. But for the past two days my dog has not left my side and puts her head on my stomach. Do you think she can sense something? She usually cuddles with her dad but lately it seems to be all about me. Plus she never puts her head on you and she keeps resting it on my stomach. I wasn't sure if she can pick up on something or I am just getting ahead of myself. If anyone has any insight I would really appreciate it. Good luck to you all this month!

Yes.. sounds like she knows. But, some dogs know and some don't..same with cats. I think it's more common with female dogs even if they're spayed.. we had one like that. Some dogs know when people or other dogs in the house are sick but obviously you'd know if you were sick or not.

My boys don't notice or care about anything other than feeding time.

Also, it's probably not your period because then she'd be sniffing down there. I had a dog I unintentionally used instead of a calender..until she got used to me and ignored it.

Haha yea she sniffs down there when it is that time of the month for sure. But like I said she has never put her head on my stomach until now. Also I'm a Type 1 diabetic and there have been several instances where she has come flying up the stairs and opened the bedroom door to get to me and wake me up and then when I tested my blood sugars were low. Like I said AF is due in 5 days so I am hoping maybe she is picking up on something

I've done some reading about this, and it seems like there is no scientific evidence to back this up, but most animal behaviorists hypothesize that animals will pick up on the nuances of your new behaviors and your new routine, so they sense something is different but the don't know what it is. This could lead to them clinging closer to you because they sense something is different and it makes them anxious.

^ This!

I was all for my cat sensing if i was pregnant because out of the blue, once we started TTC I can not get her off me...specifically off my stomach. She loves laying on or near my tummy anytime I'm sitting or laying down. It's getting a tad ridiculous...and I've never had a BFP.

I think they can sense it. But it could be something else she is reacting to. My female has been more cuddley they past few months. But since no positive test, I have decided she senses my anxiety & just my lack of motivation for anything else because I am so focused on a baby.

I hope for you it means a positive is coming!

lol yeah, I've head of that too..dogs sensing something is off with diabetics. The only other explanation for that is if you were in some diabetic like coma or sugar crash and were sleeping longer than usual and past feeding or outside bathroom time. I get woken up sometimes for that and I'm not diabetic.

I don't care what the "studies" say. I believe dog people more than a study. I've heard of people who weren't trying to get pregnant but realized their dogs knew they were pregnant before they did because they were acting differently and clingy. That isn't someone having different behaviors the dog is picking up on. The only other explanation I can come up with for her head on your stomach is if you sit around patting it or talking to it hoping you're pregnant and she's watching your hand and thinks you want her head there to pet instead. LOL.

Haha I know but I don't touch my stomach. Like I said it could be nothing but it is def random. I believe she can sense things she's a smart girl I hope she's right! BD to you all!!

With both of my chemical pregnancies, my cat was all over me. He is kind of a loner and only needs a little bit of attention throughout the day. But in early pregnancy he wants to snuggle with me for hours.

So maybe it could be a sign? I believe animals have a heightened sense I'm not saying I'm pregnant but it is odd I'm keeping my fingers crossed

Yeah, maybe.

Nobody can say for sure but I'm interested if you get a BFP.

Im curious to see if you get a bfp too!! Ive heard of it, but no experience with it!

Unfortunately I got a BFN this month. I do believe that my dog may be sensing my sadness over no BFP. It's been several months. I do think she can sense this stuff and I am keeping my eyes on her I know she will be protective of me once I am pregnant.

I think animals are more sensitive to things than most people give them credit for. My cats usually know when I am ill, and it can't be to do with routines because I have none (work & study at random hours, never get up at the same time etc).

I've definitely heard of dogs being used to alert people when they may become hypoglycaemic, so I don't see why they wouldn't be able to 'sense' other things. Very interested to find out if you get your BFP Tricia08 Fx'd

Sorry. It could be that too. Or a late BFP..not that I want to give anyone false hope after torturing myself.

This is because people with hypoglycemia smell different, both their breath and their sweat, and dogs pick up on this way before the human nose can. It is possible that a pregnant woman may smell different to dogs too, however nothing I read indicated that this was a likelihood.

Sorry Tricia, best of luck next month!

There are so many changes in body chemistry during pregnancy that it really wouldn't be surprising if they could smell it. Dogs are not only used in diabetic cases, but also to sense when an epileptic fit is about to occur or if someone has cancer. They may also be able to tell when a natural disaster is about to happen. They have so much more awareness than humans. It's amazing.

Agreed Loo. They have a 6th sense. I think only non-dog people will try and find a scientific reason for it. They also sense when someone is going to die or is really sick.

I think if a cat can sense death..they can sense new life coming. :)
