hi ladies heres a bit of background from me :coffee:

our precious boy was born sleeping at 35+3 in december of last year due to acute hypoxia, a blood clot in his cord due to badly controlled diabetes pre pregnancy, everything in that pregnancy looking back now was so complicated and full of "minor" complications from the get go.

we fell pregnant 10 weeks after our little man grew his wings and are currently 30+5 today. similar problems have been arising in this pregnancy with my body: high blood pressure, protein in my urine, increasing blood sugars and also unstable. i have constant glucosides and blood in my urine, i have had 2 treated uti's and another suspected, will get results on monday. i have had a 4 day in labour ward to to suspected food poisoning nevertheless was very sick. im having twice weekly consultant appointments and also CTG's every visit to monitor babies heart i think thats everything anyway heres my dilemma.

originally the plan was for me not to go over 34 weeks because the chance of the blood clot forming in this babies cord again is quite high due to all the same problems and my diabetes. but i see my consultant yesterday who is really not very happy with my blood sugars and babies movements have changed/ dropped dramatically, she may want to take me in next friday at 31+4 for both shots of steroids to deliver baby the next week.... i know it changes from baby to baby but how sick could she be at between 32-33 weeks with the steroids? i cant imagine coming home without bringing another baby with me either the reasons happening with my son or having to leave a sick baby in SCBU.. any advise would be greatly appreciated, thank you so much in advance :hugs:

:hugs: I am sorry to hear you lost your son last year and are having problems in this pregnancy.

I can't answer from a personal level as my lo was born at 25 weeks but from the 32/33 weekers I have seen in the hospital the main problems is they need a little help breathing using cpap although I know some who haven't needed anything, jaundice, feeding and growing. They say aim for your due date for them being out of hospital but usually at that gestation they are out sooner.

There are people who have babies born at that gestation who will no doubt be on soon with some advice.

Good luck xxx

Hi there. Sorry to hear youve been thru so much. :hugs:

My LO was born at 30+5 with the steroid injections. She has had zero problems, and came home with us after 6 weeks in NICU/SCBU.

32/33 weeks is a really could place to get to. Babies tend to do really well....

Hope everything goes better for u hun.

Good luck! :flower:

A friend of my Dad's had a baby at 33wks a few years ago and she didn't have to stay in SCBU at all she just stayed on the ward with her Mum like all the other babies :)

There was an almost 31wker in neonatal with Iona who's Mum had only managed to get one steroid jab before he was born and he did fantastically well, no major issues at all and he was out of hospital well before his due date

From what I was told by the consultant before Iona was born once you get to 32/33wks you are basically past the point of the major complications associated with having a preemie and it's just feeding and growing and poss a bit of CPAP

My boys were born at 32 weeks with steroids. They needed some initial breathing help but are currently doing well. They've now been in the NICU for 3w3d and we are probably looking at another week or so. 32 weekers generally do very well, especially with the steroids. Good luck hun. So sorry about the loss of your little man. Praying this time things go well. Keep us updated.

My son was born at 33 weeks with 1 round of the steroids. He was able to breathe on his own from birth. He did have to have the CPAP machine the first few days, but he never had to be on oxygen.

Girls are supposed to be heartier than boys though. Every baby is different though. Hope everything goes well for you and your baby.

There is never a certain answer, but you need to know the odds are in your favour.

If I were in your situation, I would be happier to have them out than in, at that gestation, given your history. But that is entirely a personal decision.

It is hard to leave your baby in hospital, harder still given your earlier loss. Maybe concentrate on the fact you can go in every day for cuddles.

For info, my daughter was born at 29 weeks after both shots of steroids and needed minimal care during her 6 weeks in NNICU and SCBU. 6 weeks sounds like a long time, but it passes soon and getting them home is the most wonderful thing.

We're all here to help and support you through this. :hugs:

My waters went at 32+3 and I had the steroids, I had high blood pressure (though not pre-eclampsia) and cysts on ovaries and uterus, I had a emergency section at 32+6 (was having one anyway at 35/36 weeks due to the complications and baby being breech) my little boy was absolutely fine, he didn't need any help breathing and just needed help with his feeding, keeping his temperature and was hooked up to a heart monitor (but I'd assume thats standard), he was in NICU for a few days in an incubator and then to a hot cot in SCBU for a week or so, then to a normal cot in SCBU. He had a few short bouts of jaundice but that was the only problem. In total he was there for 16 days which is quite a short time compared to some other babies but no matter how long it's still hard.

P.S he weighed 4lb 13oz when born which I thought was tiny at the time, now I know it's quite a good weight for his gestation.

Hello and welcome! I'm very sorry for your loss last year :hugs:

The two major milestones you want to aim for at 28 weeks (brain finishes development) and 32 (lungs are generally mature). As others have said so well, at that point you're set! A bit of cpap to help breathing is probably it.

Keep us posted and don't hesitate to ask away, the ladies here are a wonderful bunch :hugs:

Hi hun, I remember you from the loss section :hugs:

My rainbow baby Amelia was born at 27 weeks 9 months exactly after I had Ollie. She did fantastically well ad was home with us when she was 36 weeks. 32 weeks is a fab place to be, I would really be pushing to get that baby out because you know as well as I do how quickly things can go wrong. I had a placental abruption with Ollie and a second one with Amelia. As I said previously she was only 27 weeks but if I'd had to make the decision after 30 weeks I would have pushed to get her out.

From what I have seen from Amelia's NICU I would expect you to have a 3-4 week stay and bubs to be out around 35-36 weeks. Have you spoken to JOX? SHe had Leo at 34+ something I think and he went home with her. If you do have to leave baby in SCBU then you will find the strength from somewhere. I was expecting to have a prem baby and I was terrified of coming home without my baby again to the point where I had panic attacks thinking about it but when she was here I was just so greatful she was alive I dint care where she was just as long as she was breathing.

You will get through this no matter when bubs, you have been through the worst thing imaginable so the rest is just a hiccup, plus you'll have RYan watching over you all.

Please keep me updated, I'll be thinking of you x

thank you everyone for your replies. i was really expecting baby to be really ill and in SCBU for an age after googling but you have all helped and made me realise she really wouldn't be as ill as most horror stories make out.
i have a growth and doppler scan this wednesday and i see my consultant on friday. from there i should know when they will be delivering her i was told after my scan i will get a date. i think im going to try and push for 32 weeks and be taken in this friday after cons for steroids over the weekend as they did only say they were considering.

pleasebaby i havent spoken to jo about what happened with leo but i did post and ask in pregnancy after a loss how she would be at 34 weeks and see leo done great when born at that gest i dont want to get that far now thinking about it, ryans clot started forming at 34+ weeks but no one picked it up on a scan so think i will definately try push for 32 even early 33 weeks.
i will keep you all updated and will post as soon as i know everything. thank you all so much. hope all your babies are doing well and growing big and strong xx

I would definately push to have her out as early as possible hun. Nobody wants a premature baby but sometimes the alternative is just too unthinkable. I'm actually glad in a way Amelia came when she did because I wouldnt have wanted to make the decision. Good luck hun, I'm sure your rainbows going to be beautiful x
