I had a baby 3 months ago, Im very small framed size 8, and my baby was predicted to be 5-6lb.I had a long complicated labour baby was stuck and after 2 1/2 hrs pushing she was still in my pelvis and I needed emergency forceps, she turned out to be 9lb3 and I had a large front to back episiotomy.

My midwife said if they'd have known I would have had a csection and If I have another baby it will be bigger. I had guidance sessions for 2 months because of the trauma after the birth.

I want another baby next year but I dont think I can go through that again, do you think I'd be able to have a planned section?

Thanks ladies :flower:

I havent got a clue. but my daughter was 9lb 5 i had the same problem ended up with an emergency section but i was told they wouldnt have done a cestion just because she was big. so i gues it depends on your area. but hun my recovery was really hard if you dont have to have c section dont. i mean you will have one other kid to look after you need thequickest recovery possible xx

I had a traumatic labour and EMCS with DD1 so have opted for a scheduled section this time! You can choose to have a section now, but you have to see specialists/consultants who try to change your mind and sway you to have a vaginal birth :flower:

NICE states that all women can have a c sec if they request it but vbac counselling and consulting should b offered. My first hospital were nasty. i had a similar tear with a year long problem with incontinence. They dismissed it and said I had lots of surgical options after I'd finished making babies! My second hospital (we moved) were great. I had a two hour consult with a specialist midwife to discuss options, pros and cons, etc.

Under the NICE guidelines you can certainly have a maternal requested C- Section. The part that can be hard is sticking to your guns when other's try to talk you out of it. Your midwife wont have any say in it - it will be the consultant and under the guidelines you should be offered some time to discuss your fears and then after that and you still decide that's what you want - YOU CANNOT be refused. If Your consultant says no he HAS to refer you to another Consultant who will perform one for you within the same or nearby hospital. Considering what you went through I feel you should have absolutely no problems! So good luck and stick to your guns lady x

Hi hun I am having an Elective CS I must say they didnt give me any hassle but I had to see a maternal well being psychiatrist who wanted to make sure I was capable of making the decision. I had a 3rd borderline 4th degree tear and I flat out refused to put myself and my baby at at risk this time

As another poster said NICE guidelines say you have every right to ask for a caesarean and they have to take to you seriously and consider your decision.
Considering even your midwife said you would have been offered one last time due to the size of your baby it would be impractical of them not to at least discuss it with you.
I am having a planned section due to the mess of my previous labour. So far I've had to see the consultant midwife who runs the VBAC clinic and now I have to see my consultant and tell them what I want...from my experience at the clinic I have got the impression your happiness and safety is what matters so I'm sure they'll take you seriously.
C-section recovery is different for everybody, mine was remarkably quick and easy and I was quite impressed with how soon I felt 'normal' again. This time I'll have a mental 20 month old to chase but I won't let that stop me.
Hope this helps x

Technically yes - you have the right now (you didn't before apparently) to request an ELCS even with no medical or mental reason. The trade off was that they would attempt to put you off it at every turn. As some other posters have said, some places are complete buttholes about it.

I can't see why, given your history, anywhere would deny you an ELCS. Major trauma last time, counselling required - you have a very good case for being petrified of giving birth again, and therefore fulfilling the mental side of requiring an ELCS anyway. Plus the potential big baby thing added to it. You just need to keep on at it with them.

I'm being booked tomorrow for my ELCS. I have a strange medical condition they promised to manage through pregnancy, but the consultants and GPs have washed their hands of it. I said from the start that if that was the case I would not be VBAC. As no one wants to control my condition, I've demanded my ELCS. They haven't argued at all with my decision (but it is more open to people who've EMCS or ELCS before). This one is big too, which may have stopped them pressing for VBAC too!

You can ask for one but it will depend on the hospital, some are more pro vbac than others

A couple of points tho, your second may not be bigger than the first Liam was 1lb lighter than Rhys was

And I am recovering from my 2nd section at the moment and it's really hard with a child already plus I have got an infection in the wound this time

I had a bad time with first baby (natural birth) and subsequently very anxious about this time round. Spoke to GP and Midwife then met with Consultant to discuss anxieties and request elective c section and she agreed, with very little fight. Stick to your guns, do what's best for you xx

My story was quite similar to yours hun, thought slightly smaller baby at 8lb 13oz lol. There's absolutely no way I could go through that again, horrific. It might depend on where you live but all I had to do was speak to my mw, who then made me an appt with the consultant. I talked through what had happened and she said of you had any option possible what would you do? Choose c section in a heartbeat no problem xxx
