Hello all, my 3 year old little boy constantly complains of stomach ache always saying, got a sore beggy. Past few weeks hes been saying its sore then going further to explain in these words " mummy ive got fire in my mouth" then runs his finger from his stomache upto his throat and says hot fire. To me that sounds like heartburn :s he goes through phases past 2-3 weeks, wer he will completely binge on anything he can get his hands on then he will stop n have a nibble of breakfast dinner n tea and no snacks and he will arch his back all the time and huffs and puffs too like when your not feeling to good u take a big breath in, and a loud breath out.hate not knowing what to do for him whenever i tell our doctor we get fobbed off with "hes at that age" what the hell

Any advice would be great thank you xxx

Yes of course they can. I suffered from heartburn all my life cause of GERD. Basically heartburn happens when your valve between stomach and oesophagus is not shutting properly. It is not an uncommon thing and there are many ppl who suffer from it. It is also something that needs medication as the stomach acids rising in the oesophagus can burn the lining and cause all sorts of problems. Very often babies and children can grow out of it and it can be a thing of age but that doesn't mean it should not be treated. Reflux does get treated in babies, so why not toddlers. Don't let yourself get fobbed off at your doctors! Or if they are seriously unhelpful, get Infant Gaviscon over the counter.
Good luck!

Thank u very much hun, he was on infant gaviscon when he was a baby due to brining up so mqny bottles and screaming when laid down, at the minute i give him tums for kids, but doesnt seem to help a whole lot, i will thanks again.hes just been diagnosed with asthma and in the clinic next to that clinic is food allergy and intolerance testing going to see if he can be tested over that too, he had a terrible.allergy to tomatoes from around 6 months old till he was 2 would throw up obscene amounts of a night in his sleep and it stopped when i cut out all tomatoe based foods, still to this fay after hes eaten say spagetti bolognese hes all wishy washy and not right for atleast 5-6 days, nomore babies for me im having a meltdown with just 1 haha thanks chick xxxx

Definitely can have acid reflux at any age, and sounds like he does given the example you gave of tomato things making him ill. I'd take him to doctor, go over his symptoms and let doctor know what he has been complaining about (fire in his throat, etc) and get him some meds. Ask about trigger foods for GERD so you know better what things to avoid with him.

I agree with PP's. My ds had terrible acid reflux when he was an infant due to an allergy to milk.

I would ask the doctor to evaluate him. It may just be solved by a simple antacid, but just in case you want to make sure it's not GERD or something that could cause a long term problem.
