Can someone explain what the heck my boobs are doing?

Starting last week, I have been having an engorgement problem, but only on one side or the other. This is a bit odd as I never had any engorgement when my milk came in. Why now? Why just the one side? I have to get up in the middle of the night and pump that side off and I can get 4 oz in about 10 minutes, it is just shooting out. Great for storage purposes, but it is very uncomfortable. I can't figure out if Bren is maybe eating less or what. Any ideas?

possibly.... i read that baby's actually favour one breast to another.... maybe hes having more on his fave one than the other!!??!

I am thinking it's your baby favoring one breast as well. I used to have one that was always bigger than the other when I was breastfeeding.

He does not seem to be favoring one over the other, that is why I am confused.

Has he had a growth spurt recently? I find that I leak more just after a growth spurt as my boobs start producing a bit more than Kaya actually needs

My left one is very full all the time. I don't know why, either. I can always get 4 oz off it and only about 2 off the other. I make sure that Bella eats more off my right side to get it to make more, but it hasn't worked so far. The LC at the hospital told me it was normal to have one side produce more, but I thought it would even out by now! The left barely fits in my bra and the right side is gaping!

Try not to pump too much as you will produce even more, try pumping a little bit and then try putting cold cabbage leaves in your bra - I know it sounds weird but it works to relieve engorgement

I find that too - as things start to settle down a bit after a growth spurt I have a few days where they get really full (sometimes one more than the other depending on how long he's gone between feeds and how much he had from that one before - I guess that's why anyway). I don't usually pump them though (unless I want to store it - I did manage to stock up my freezer in a week by pumping one side every morning), and they always settle down in a few days - obviously it takes a bit longer if you've been pumping x
