I would be really grateful if there is anyone on here that could tell me what the Mutley area in Plymouth is like?

I have found a property on Lisson grove that I would like to rent. I live in London and have only been to Plymouth once on holiday in August.

I am moving to Plymouth on the 1st of March and this property is available for me and OH but I wanted to get abit of info on the area before I accepted it.

Please could you tell me if the area/road has a bad reputation? isit far from city centre etc??

Thanks :flower: x

Mutley is very close to the city centre!!

I lived in Mutley for three years and never had any problems (moved out six years ago though). You have an awful lot of students in the area and I wouldn't say it is the best area of the city but it is far from the worst.

Mutley Plain itself (the Main street) in Mutley is filled with shops and bars/pubs and resturants/takeaways. So it can be really manic on a weekend night because there is something like 12 different pubs on the street!!

Most buses in the city pass through Mutley Plain so it is great for travelling around.

Lisson Grove is a mix of houses. Student houseshares, big houses converted into flats and family homes.

I am really grateful you replied to my thread and the information you have given me is REALLY helpful thank you. Obviously Plymouth and London are TOTALLY different but I know the good areas - the bad areas, the posh areas - the poor areas in London! So its good to know what that particular area is like from someone that knows the area.

I am only 19 but NOT a student. OH is 21 and will be working at the blues bar and grill as his cousin is the head chef (I don't know what reputation it has ) but thats why we are moving.

I havent found work yet so I will be on my own whilst OH is at work, Until I find a job of course. I wanted to know if walking to Mutley plain....by myself to the local shop etc. would be safe? I'm sorry to ask so many questions and pester you.

Oh the property is a 6 bed house with 2 bathrooms. Its £280 a month for a room ncluding bills (again ALOT cheaper than anything in London - but don't wanna be scammed if thats classed as expensive for the area?!) this is just until we find our feet and money etc is sorted!

Thanks again you have really helped xx:hugs:

I lived in Plymouth (St Judes and North Hill). Totally agree with what RedFraggle said.

:happydance: The Blues Bar and Grill is amazing!!! Very popular in Plymouth and its always busy!

You'll be fine on Mutley Plain alone. Only time I would be a bit cautious is late on Friday or Saturday night because there are so many people out drinking. There are two small supermarkets on Mutley Plain itself, Somerfield and Co-op and I used to walk to them all the time on my own. Plus it is only a 10/15 minute walk into the city centre.

The rent is about right. Even on the cheap side I would say. 6 years ago I was paying £350 a month for a small one bed flat and bills on top.

I'd say being so young that Mutley will be perfect for you. Everyone I know has lived in Mutley at some point in their lives!! I only left because we wanted a quieter life in the suburbs!

Any other questions just shout! :hugs:

Oh wow you have got me really excited now!!! :happydance: Thank you again I am so grateful I really am! Friday night and Saturday I will probably be at the blues bar and grill with OH and his cousin Lee (the head chef) until he finishes work....(Just to get me out of the house :haha:) and I wont leave the house at night....too scared :haha:
Nice to hear it has a good reputation although I'm note sure about OH cooking  only joking!!

Yep I agree with what Redfraggle said!

I live on North Hill which is right next to Mutley  We used to live in Mutley a couple of years ago and I used to go out on my own at night sometimes and never had any trouble.

Oh and yup Blues Bar has a good reputation!!PM if you need anything else!Good luck with the move xxxxxxxxx

Sorry for the slow reply i also lived in mutley - theres a fair amount of student accomodation there...but never had any problems personally.

Thank you I am very grateful! Not long now....i'm excited but scared lol x

Everything they said :)

Lisson Grove is pretty quiet, like the other roads off Mutley, it's slightly nicer if you're on the side of the road which has a front garden to set you back off the road a bit.

Access to everything is really easy, schools, docs, transport, shops etc.

Jen - I was gonna suggest cake n coffee on friday?? ...and anyone who fancies it :)

Hey thank you all ladies you all have been so lovely and helpful! Thats one thing I did notice when I went to Plymouth in the summer is how friendly everyone is...and everyone talks to everyone!! I was only there 5 days and 2 of them we were coming back from town (OH was at the casino as he plays poker) and 2 seperate people just starting talking to me and commenting on how nice my tattoo is which I think was really nice and made us feel welcome. You would NOT get that in London the most you would get is a dirty look and a "what you looking at" lol! Soo excited to move now :yipee:

Oh and seraphim the lady on the phone did say there isnt a back garden round there  but everyone sits in their front garden??? I suppose its the norm down in Plymouth I dont know :haha: I'm really excited now ladies and it looks like I will be moving down Saturday week not Monday week WAHOO xxxx
