So im just starting to try to get my baby to take a bottle of expressed milk.. I heated my milk from the fridge in a bowl of hot water.. She hates trying with the bottle right now and hardly touched it. Around 20 mins later i wanted to try again and put the bottle back in the hot water for a minute.. Is this ok? Will i have made my baby poorly? Not that she really took any of it anyway so almost all was thrown away as i kno u cant save it for the next feed.
But can u warm it up more than once if it goes chilly during a 'long' feed?
Also if u make up a bottle of ebm how long can u keep it in the fridge before u need a new sterilised teat? Im just trying to get the hang of the sterilising malarky!

Expressed milk lasts up to a week in the fridge and that would be with a teat on the bottle. As for reheating I dont think your supposed to but I have been known to do the same if LO hasnt finished it.

your not meant to reheat the milk more than once because bateria and emzymes in it. just like formula its a perfect breeding ground of bacteria so after its been used it should really be thrown out within the hour if heated

So even after a week u wouldnt nee a newly sterilised bottle? Does that mean u can sterilise bottles then keep them in the cupboard in advance? And if so why does it say that things in the steriliser only stay sterile for an hr after u open the lid?

The breast milk acts as an anribacterial in the bottle. On its own (ie empty) a bottle wouldnt stay sterile for more than 24 hours.

plus in a fridge bacteria doesn't grow as fast as its not hot enough, but once out even with breastmilk after an hour the bateria will be at high levels and start to become some what dangerous if its been heated.
