Up to 28 weeks my pregnancy was normal, then I started going into pre-term labor, I went in several times to have it stopped until I was 36 weeks along, had one more bought but it stopped it's self. Then at 37 weeks everything slowed down, my contractions have been staying 10 mins apart. I'm 39 weeks now and am curious is they will let me get induced shortly after my due date. He has dropped and I am slightly effaced but for the last 2 weeks have only be 1/2 cm dilated. Any one know if they will let me schedule it like that or am i stuck waiting the traditional 2 weeks? not to mention due to my pre-term i've been on modified bed rest since last month and out of work and i'm running out of days before i could lose my job. Any information would be very very helpful.

Eesh sorry you're in a tough situation with the job. Other than that, why do you want to be induced? Quite honestly, a naturally occuring labor is typically easier on the body.

Are you in the US?

I think it depends on where you are and on your doctor. My doctor told me at 37 weeks, that we could talk about inducing if we made it to my due date. I guess the trigger was that I was already 1cm dilated and 75% effaced at that point.
I go back to the doctors tomorrow and am hoping that I can talk her into inducing me on Wednesday! I think it's a log shot, but I will try.
There is a measurement that I read about online, that helps the doctor determine if you are ready. It's called the Bishop Scale. I think you have to score a certain number, in order for them to induce after 39weeks.

I am just going by the research I did online but I hope it helps

Thanks, I am in the U.S. but work for a small business so they are not required to follow the family practice laws bigger companies do. I'd like to be induced because technically I've been in labor for 2 months now, and would very much like to be out of it. Never herd of the bishop scale i'll have to look that one up. I have an appt in two days so I guess i'll just ask and go with that, was just hoping someone else had a similar experience. This whole pregnancy the baby has been fine, it's just been me thats been having health problems. Hoping to see this little guy sooner than latter thanks for the advice.

I'm from the UK and here, no it's not usual for them to induce at 40weeks. However US seem to be a little more relaxed on those rules, maybe you could speak to your midwife or doctor about your options. It's obviously not ideal for baby to be induced, it's better for them to be left to come naturally if there is nothing medically wrong.. So think long and hard and talk to someone professional.

My midwife was taking about induction as she didn't think I was anywhere close to giving birth (that was on my due date) but I wouldn't even discuss it. I was adamant about avoiding induction for as long as possible as labour is hard enough when it's natural let alone when it's trying to be forced.
Luckily my waters broke the next day and my daughter was born just 2 days after her due date.

I would really research the pros and cons of induction. I know you want your baby now but it can be a really slow tiring process. Do do your homework and make sure it's really worth it xx

Personally I would try and avoid induction if at all possible. I was desperate not to have one but at 42 weeks decided it was for the best... not a nice experience though x

I had my first in the US, my doctor was strongly pushing induction at 39+6 (for no medical reason). I held off and went into labour naturally at 41+3, on the day I had (finally) scheduled an induction.

So yeah, I guess it depends on your doctor, but from my experience with an OBGYN practice in Washington State, it was very common to induce on the due date.

I was induced at 38 weeks through choice and it was fine. All very controlled and calm till the end. She got stuck and ended up ventouse but a positive experience all roumd

My induction was awful awful awful. My naturally occurring labor was way way way better.

I did have a dr offer to induce me at 35 weeks after a amnio sentisis showing baby's lungs were strong because my husband was due to deploy. I wouldn't have done it though. Everything ended up working out, the deployment was moved back and dh left 16 days after the natural labor.

Having experienced both, nothing except the health of the baby or myself would warrant an induction. It sucked that badly.
