Can you choose not to claim maintenance?

I am afraid of asking for maintenance via CSA or any other means. Because it will set FOB off into one and likely cause him to go mad. But - is there a choice not to? If there is, can you get more help from the government? I am afraid for babies safety and mine. But thought that with CSA keeping everything private that I would have a bit more protection. What I suspect though is that it will incite him to want access etc. Although I know he could turn up wanting that anyway even if I were not claiming maintenance. Infact I think he will regardless. But is there a choice not to claim from him? I doubt I will manage well without his money and he did plan this baby with me - its just that hes changed his mind now.

Not sure of the answer. I do think he should pay up, especially if you both planned the baby together. He has responsibilites. Good luck anyway

Hi hun , the only way to get round that is to not have him on birth cert & claim you dont know who the father is ..not that i agree with that though ...BUT the government will not give you more. That is unfair .
Id go through csa anyway, that doesnt mean he can suddenly start wanting access either, But he should help pay to bring HIS child up, Totally understand you are scared hun but that is where a solicitor comes in to stop anything if he starts.

if he is not on the birth certificate then he cant really do much, The CSA can keep ur details private and they cant disclose them to him, and any contact from you to him can be made through the CSA themselves. So dont worry to much about it. i plan on applying to them but the FOB is not going to know anything.. He thinks im gonna get a council flat in Edin but im not, my parents might buy somewhere and my benefits will pay them rent so it wil be private renting. And its not in Edin its in central scotland, so he will be way off and the CSA cant tell him my details! just make sure you tell them NOT to disclose your whereabouts

Also if u say he was violent they wont proceed unless u say so

i am guessing you claim income support?? you can only clain £20 maintenance before it affects your benefit, the rest then gets deducted from your income support, if you dont want to claim from him then as already said the only way is to say you dont know who fob is, however you wont gain any more money. hope that helps xxx

Tom's dad is on the birth certificate and I don't claim for anything from him nor does he choose to give.

i dont claim maintenance but sophias dad is not on her birth certificate, out of my choice and his.
