Can you diet while breastfeeding??

I am fed up being fat i am normally size 10/12 but i am size 16/18..
my baby is 6 months and i plan to feed at least till my baby is one... but not sure weather to diet now or wait until i stop breastfeeding...
Any advice would be lovely..??
 
yes! but follow the slimming world one :) you can do extra easy days which allows you to eat everything! :) and you get healthy extras too! you never miss out on anything its al about food optimizing i lost just over a stone! i'm now pregnant again and still trying to battle that fat bum! lol x
 
you can and it doesn't have to be slimming world or weight watchers, the main thing to keep in mind is if dieting while BF you cannot go below 1500 calories a day and many women will need closer to 1800 calories a day to maintain good milk supply, the larger you are the more calories you may need as your basal metabolic rate will be higher. I am doing diet chef which is a delivered diet but I think after my three month deal on it is up I will just do lower calorie under my own steam as there is no need to do any set diet plan when BF and I feel more confident now; but its been really good as it has a lot of dairy foods, nuts and seeds, beans and other veggie protein as part of the diet foods-they are really just normal foods with full fat dairy etc in but very carefully measured portions. Almost all the breakfast and snack options contain wholegrain oats as well-which is fab for milk supply. They also advise drinking at least 250ml of semi-skimmed milk a day as well as at least one extra protein portion a day. I have lost over a stone and feel so much more energetic and healthy now xx
 
I'm on Weight Watchers and honestly, I've found it much easier than pre-Oliver purely because the extra points you get make so much difference. There certainly isn't anything stopping you from dieting now as long as you do it properly and safely. Good luck!
 
I'm doing weight watchers online and I've lost 5 pounds so far! Just do it sensibly and you should have no problems! I made sure to wait until LO was at least 6 months so my supply was well established.

30 from your end of pregnancy weight, or 30 from your post pregnancy weight?! :shock: Either way, well done! You're only a couple weeks on from me!

I started counting calories last week, though more because I was eating hardly at all (I'm talking one small meal and sometimes a snack in a 24 hour period :nope:) and needed to force myself to make sure I was eating enough than to really loose weight. But I lost 5lbs last week (must've been all the water I was drinking, since I gave up soda after Christmas!)... 5 down... 75 to go. :wacko: :haha:

I think so long as you're careful about it and don't try to do anything drastic, you should be fine. :thumbup:
 
i did weight watchers. you get extra points allowance for bf. it worked really well.

i think i will cut back a little bit for a month and have more fruit whenever i am hungry and see what i lose in a month...i weigh 11 stone 3 pounds .now..
 
It would be fine for you to go down to around 1500 cals then, you're a bit like me a size 16-18 at 11st-its really unfair as I know people who are a size 10-12 at that weight and they are not any taller than me or anything :D xx
 
UPDATE ....still breastfeeding baby is just over 2 years old and I have now lost 2 and a half stone and I now fit my size 10 clothes,, I have been having having about 1300 calories and been going to the gym between 2 and 3 times week milk is not a problem and I am still feeding him 3 times a day...
I am sure not every one can diet and not use lose there milk but for me things worked out ...

Well done on the weight lose in 2 weeks,, mine has been coming off slowly between 1 to 2 pounds a week...but I'm happy to be happy the way I look now..good luck with slimming world,,have you got much to lose? Sorry if that Is nosey..x. And yes I will try to eat enough most days I am to busy to eat kids keep me busy.. But when they are all in bed that's when I struggle..I am alway hungry..and love my crisps...

I want to lose another 22lbs so quite a bit to go - I'm expecting it to take a while 1-2 lb a week sounds good to me.
 
I'm doing slimming world too. It's very good for breast feeding. I got to my target weight before pregnancy but now I'm up 3 stone. Got my 2nd weigh in next week. I'm really enjoying the healthy eating now after 9 months of gluttony! :)
