Can you pronounce Joni?

That's my name but my mum spelled it Jonee I've been called Johnny a lot in my life! In saying that I never cared and it's nice having a unique name, I've never met another. Either spelling is obviously pronounced Joanie to me and I learned at a young age to say "yeah like Joni Mitchell"... Even though I've never heard one of her songs!

That's good to know that you've never been bothered if people pronounce it incorrectly! My mum's name is Lee and she has often been mistaken for a guy (from the name, not from her face haha ) but I don't think it's ever bothered her either, so maybe it won't be that big a deal.

Jonee is another spelling I hadn't thought of

Edit: My name is Harriet and people pronounce it okay, but lots of people misspell it and I've never really cared...perhaps I'm just over thinking the whole thing, I like the name Joni so perhaps it just isn't that big a deal?!

I read it as Joanie- It would need to have a double 'n' in the middle to make the vowel sound short like in Jonny- but that's from a primary teacher perspective. The children I teach would pronounce it Joanie, with the long vowel sound, because it doesn't have a double consonant. So Joni is not really a confusing spelling if you ask me, it's correct!xx

I read it as Joanie - it's a lovely name.
Perhaps you could still leave the 'e' off the end to give it a bit of a different spelling - Joani? x

When I first read your title, I read it like Johnny. But I love Joni, think it's really sweet. Maybe adding an "a" like Joani would solve any confusion people may have. I really like how Joani looks too!

joani and thought about a girl ... my daughters name gets misprounced everytime ... misspelled all day long and i still correct her teacher ...

my husband has the same problem ... i dont mind, would have not chosen a different name, since i and everybody else loves it.
