Just wondering. Has anyone done it? Was your baby okay or affected by it?

Pretty sure I have PND and if the doctor suggests pills I don't know what to do as breastfeeding is important to me. I don't want to have to stop.

I know there are definitely breastfeeding safe anti depressant drugs available. Just make it very clear to your doctor that you're breastfeeding and you should be fine. :) Sorry you're suffering with some pnd, hun. This site as well as others are great for help and support. It does get better. :)

Yes you can. If bf is important to you then keeping going is better for your PND than stopping, and taking anti-depressants while bf is better health wise than not bfing (the protection offered to mother and child outweighs the small amount of meds that might go in to your milk IMO). If you make it clear to your doctor they should prescribe the safest ones.

I take sertraline (Zoloft) while breastfeeding which my doctor said is a preferred antidepressant for breastfeeding.
Hope you can get some help and support from your doctor :hugs:

I take them and nurse my baby. Its The second child I've used them through I've never noticed any ill effects from taking them. I feel like such a better mother for having them so I certainly would go ahead

I'm also taking zoloft, my midwife prescribed it and told me it was one of the safest antidepressant to take both while pregnant and nursing. Definitely ask for it if you feel you may have pnd. I started taking Zoloft in my 3rd trimester and immediately made a huge difference. Now that my baby is here I've has zero ppd, and am enjoying my baby so much more than I did my previous 2 (had ppd with them), which is so wonderful for all of us. Going on the antidepressant was easily one of the better decisions I've made for myself and my family.

Hope you get the help and support you need soon.

Yes I take amitriptyline, it was prescribed by a perinatal psychiatric consultant so I trust it's safe x

Thanks ladies, you've really set my mind at ease. I have been feeling a little better the last few days so I haven't been to the doctor yet, but it's good to know there is something I can take if I don't keep improving.
