Hi ladies,

Just wondering if anyone knows - if you have used a canesten pessary and then go into labour the next day or something, can it hurt the baby? I keep feeling 'thrushy'and I know you're meant to treat thrush in case you go into labour and end up passing the infection to baby when it travels down the birth canal, but does anyone know if the pessary is dangerous to the baby when it travels down the birth canal if the pessary (or bits of the pessary) are still in there?

Lovely subject eh?!

Thanks!

hey i know this is an old thread but i was woundering what you did?, i am in the same situation because they will soon be inducing me, and i think i might have a yest infection,,,

My midwife said I had thrush at my sweep but didn't say anything about treating it or it harming baby.... Now I'm worried I'm due to be induced in two days what should I do

From what I've read (I currently have a yeast infection as well), the worst that can happen is that your baby will get a thrush infection after birth, which will clear up pretty quickly with medication.

I am going to see if I can get something for it on Monday at my doctor's appointment, because I figure the less severe the infection is (if it hasn't cleared up completely) when I give birth, the less likely it is to be passed on to my son... plus I am in constant discomfort from the infection.

There are some OTC treatments that are safe, but I don't know which ones they are.

I was prescribed it when I was overdue with my last baby, I wouldn't imagine they would have done that if it was dangerous. I think the cream disappears pretty quickly anyhow. But no harm in checking with midwife or phone call to labour ward maybe.

I had to use one the day before i went into labour. Most of the pessary gets flushed out when waters, mucus plug goes. The midwives wasnt concerned when i delivered him and he didnt have any type of thrush.

I was in pre-term labour and they gave me a pessary so I guess just do it?
