cannot handle growth spurt...

I know exactly how you feel. I'm being trying to make the decision to carry on BF or to switch to formula as sometimes its just so hard. I can't let my little one feed every hour as he has mild colic and feeding to often just makes it worse!

What I do now is on the days that I'm battling I'll top him up with formula and then use my pump for at least 30 min.

Just remember to make sure you eat and drink properly and try to get some rest. If you don't look after yourself, it will affect your milk production. I mentioned it on another thread, I started on Monday drinking a litre of water, litre of apply juice and 60ml of Schlehen Elixir which is a natural tonic every 24 hours on top of anything else I normally drink. It seems to working well as my little one is SO much happier the last 2 days and my breasts fill up again quicker.

What scares me is when I have to go back to work.

Don't give up hun! Your breast will produce more as your lil one trains them. The growth spurts only last 2 days or so and during that time your lil one will build your milk supply by continuously sucking long after your breast are empty. It can be difficult at times I know but try hang in there. I've been through it as well and there's nothing worse than a screaming baby when you're dog tired.

I guarantee you after 2 days your milk supply will be way up there and your li one will be fine :)

i think ffion has colic now :( she just keeps screaming and screaming

:hugs: That is really hard, Connor had horrible colic from 3-7 weeks. I hope it gets better for you soon! Gripe water along with gas drops and swaddling seemed to help him settle down the most.

gave in yesterday and gave her a bottle, she then didnt wake up for 5 hours so my boobs were killing me. i breastfed her during the night though

everybody keeps saying 'oh just give her a bottle' and 'you're tired, just let me feed her'

its so difficult to say no when shes screaming and screaming and too frustrated to latch on

Hun, you are doing the best for your child, tell them that if they really want to help, they should look after Rhys so you can go to bed with Ffion for an hour or two

When you are having a tough time and just don't know whether to carry on or 'hit the bottle', let me give you a liittle something to think about that may help you....

I'm still bf after 16 months. Of course my daughter has other food and drinks as well now, but I promise you for the last 13 or 14 months at least, having milk, ready to go, in the middle of the night, if she wakes, has been a pure godsend.

My friends who all gave up, have had a year or so of dragging themselves to the kitchen to at least warm, if not prepare a bottle. I grab my daughter, snooze, and put her back when she's done.....easy peasy. No washing up....nothing needed for the next time.

I have 'other' reasons I carried on for so long.....it literally has been a lifesaver to my daughter as she has been through a very serious illness and coudn't tolerate anything but BM for a while, but now it's sheer laziness on my part...albeit, I know it helps her too!

Just thought it may give you 'light at the end of the tunnel' at a time it seems so dark. Its soooo tiring in those early days, but sooooo worth it after the first few weeks. And time really does fly!

Big  i know how hard it is but after a couple of weeks when my boobs healed up as they were so sore at first too they got to the point where they was bleeding and now i find it so easy as theyv healed its quicker and easier in the night just to get your boob out rather then fiddle around with making bottles xxxx

:hugs: Terri! I agree, ask them to watch Rhys so you can just concentrate on feeding Ffion.

I can't even fathom how I could get up in the middle of the night to make a bottle. I can't barely wake up to feed her!

Wow Lyns!! I hope I can last as long as you, I am aiming for one year or more if I can!

Hang in there Tezzy, it gets much much easier! And you'll be so proud of yourself for making it through, plus your lil one will appreciate it too! It's super hard we know, and there were many nights that I cried because I was just sooo tired and stressed, but it gets easier everyday.

today has been easier, ffion had a feed lastnight around 10.30 and slept till 3.30 woke up breifly at 5.30 and then woke at 8.45

Glad to hear last night was a little better:hug: Hang in there. You really are close to the days when things get easy with it.

Pleased its getting a bit easier :)
