Can't believe what I've just seen

So OH and me took the children to a museum today and on our return we saw our next door but one neighbours parking their car. We don't really know them but I know they have a one year old boy. Anyway, the father had the boy on his knee instead of in the car seat. I'm so shocked that they would risk their child in this way. Even if it was a short journey, it's still a risk given that we live in a city.

Its just sheet stupidity. A friend of mine had her 4 month old in a front facing car seat designed for 9+month. I told her it was silly but her response was its only a fine, not like I will get points for it. I then found out that lots of times she has just had him on her knee, especially when he was newborn as he was unsettled. Don't get it at all xxx

Is it possible they were just switching spots? Not saying it isn't dangerous, I just like to believe people aren't that stupid. I did hold my son in my lap once when I moved my car out of our garage and into our driveway, but there was no traffic to worry about.

They could have just been adjusting the car. It's hard to know exactly.

Well if they were switching parking spots, they did it via the main road as we definitely saw them come from there. The main road has a busy bus route as well. So stupid.

my friend became disabled because her mum was breast feeding her whilst they were driving and her dad crashed. she was 7 months old.

i feel so so strongly about people not having their kids in car seats, i've lost it at people who do it on the motorway!!
