Iv got sever gerd and been experiencing throat spasms where my throat completely shuts tight for a few seconds at a time its so scary not being able to breathe iv not been earing properly because im so scared and its so painful. The docs havent done anything at all for me all been useless i just dont know what to do will my baby be at risk from me not eating enough? The hospital doesnt seem to care?

I highly recommend seeing a specialist. I'm sure you can find a gastroenterologist who doesn't require a referral to be seen.

I also have GERD and was able to get a pregnancy-safe prescription to control it (I often vomit because of it). The physician told me, though, that the reflux poses no problems for the baby, but rather for the mother. All of that acid erodes the throat and can/will eventually cause cancerous cells to form. Are you currently taking anything to help? Lansoprazole (Prevacid) is a class-B, OTC drug you can take in the meantime.

Hi im on omeprazole 20mg just been upped to 40mg still no relief from it my throats constantly burning :( iv been told ill have to see a specialist if im no better tomorrow but im dreading if they put a camera up my nose or down my throat iv had it before and passed out

Check with your practitioner about the omeprazole. It's a Class C drug and not as safe for baby... (I took it for an entire pregnancy with DS and he seems to be fine, though, so don't stress.) When I saw the specialist, he said that unless it was a DIRE emergency, they won't scope while pregnant; you ought to be safe on that front. And if they want to, ask them to wait! No one can force you.

Hope that stronger prescription starts working its wonders! You should feel so much better in no time. Xx

He said the omeprazole was fine but he never allowed me to up my dose until now... Doesnt seem to be working yet how did you manage with it? X

I'm sorry. Reflux is the worst. :( I tend to drink a lot of milk and eat a lot of bread as the medication wears off towards the end of the night. I also follow a pretty strict GERD diet in addition to taking the lansoprazole. The combination seems to keep the vomiting at bay!
