I get carers allowence and my partner works so other than a bit of tax credits and child benefit, we don't get anyother benefit.

I was told i wasn't entitled to any sort of maternity payment because i get carers allowence (which is £55 per week).... and yet, if i was on the dole or any other "out of work" benifit, i would get a maternity element added to the payment.

Is it just me that thinks this is unfair?

I don't how ever want to blame the gov as this is something labour inforced a few yrs back. I happen to think Cameron is having a good go a clearing up labours mess.

can you give up your carers allowance and claim MA? I was told that if you are on a benefit then for the period of 'maternity leave' you would be moved on to MA then back to the normal benefit after the 39 weeks.

I mean its not like any disability benefit is for you

I thought entitlement to Maternity Allowance is based on your work record. As far as I was aware if you were on Income Support or ESA you don't get MA either?
