Castor oil to induce labour?

Only if I was 'ready' ie. favourable and postterm hun... sorry, I hope it works out for you :hugs:

Thx ladies:) I see my doctor today, and will ask her about this. I've been doing LOTS of walking(up hill), bouncing on a ball, sex, spicy food, and I have my 2nd sweep today! So we will see how much more I'm dialated today. I know my cervix has changes a lot since my last sweep...so who knows maybe I won't need the castor oil lol!
Thanks for all your input ladies, I appreciate it!!

I'm sure this question has been asked 100 times...but I am trying to get labour going (since last week)...and dr's WANT me to go into labour and have this baby by sunday, or I will be having a csection! So my question is...should I try to take castor oil? I don't want to take it if it means baby will go into distress or something.
But if it means I have crazy diarrhea for a whole day and it starts labour, than thats worth it to me rather than having to go through surgery!

Any advice? Thanks in advance!!

Don't know what others have said hon, but I have had this conversation with my cousin who is a nurse who worked in L&D. She told me that the only thing castor oil will accomplish is to dehydrate you, and they typically will give you fluids once you get to the hospital (especailly if you want an epi). After mother is rehydrated, contractions usually stop and the woman is sent home. So, personally, it doesn't seem worth it to me.

I don't think its worth the risk.
But as far as i can see, opinions vary depending where in the world you live.

I have 3 sisters who took it and it worked for all of them. Babys were all fine too. I will be trying it if this little guy is stubborn :)

well its down in my Hynobirthing book it says.... take 1/2 tablespoon of either castor oil or borage oil every half hour for three doses (this is more palatable if followed by an orange juice chaser) because the oil creates a pulsatingbaction in the bowel,it stimulates the onset of labour.
I have not done it myself as cant face it but am thinking i should as im 42 weeks 2m!
Wishing you lots of luck hun,bet your totally confused about what to do i can understand why you want to try it! Maybe ask your midwifes opinion. Im no expert but i would of though it would be better than being induced or having c sec but like i say im no expert xxx
good luck again xxx

I used castor oil last year with my daughter and I'm not sure if it was her time to come or the oil. I wouldn't do it again just because it made me super sick, like I woke up at 2am having to throw up over and over and over again and had the runs at the same time. Contactions definitely did start and I had her at 5pm that day, fast and healthy delivery. I read about the pro's and cons before taking it and it was def my last resort (I tried everything from eggplant and pineapple, to the tea and the ball and walking my buns off and sex and the sweep....)
I say ask your dr and see what they say. All I know is like I said, I wont be doing it again lol

How much did you take????
Would you choose a medical induction this time over the oil?

Thx ladies! I didn't get a chance to talk to my dr about it today, as she discovered that baby is in breech position:( I have an external cephalic version booked for tomorrow morning, which means they will manuallyt try to turn baby before they offer a csection next week. They perform the procedure in the OR incase baby goes into distress, than they can deliver him/her within minutes right there! So castor oil is a no-go for me right now...but I may try it later if baby turns head down, and I'm overdue

Oh no, so sorry to hear that! Fingers crossed they can get the little one to turn! Hang in there, one way or another you'll have baby with you soon!
