my gp will not prescribe me progesterone only pill for a few days to kick start my body into having a period! i am actually quite angry with him now. i've been waiting so long for my "two week wait" to end!

i have however got the birth control pill i was on 3 years ago in my chest of drawers *edit - it is still in date, exp 03/2013*, but it's the synthetic version of progesterone, it's called femodene, and the 2 active ingredients are ethinylestradiol and gestodene, if i were to take one of these a day for 3 days, do you think it would kick start my period again? or would it inhibit my TTC? i mean it's been over 5 months now... actually i just worked it out and it's almost 6 months, well it will be on the 21st of aug... and it's getting to the point where i'm going to loose the plot!

i am getting desperate!

please give me any suggestions!!

I feel your pain! I've had many "cycles" that go on for..ev..er..

Years ago I ordered natural progesterone cream online... I'll have to go look to see exactly where I got it. But it's bioidentical to the progesterone we produce after ovulation. It works like a charm every single time I've used it. It's a lotion so I use it in the morning and evening as directed and just keep taking it until I start to spot. Sometimes that's 4 days, others it has been 14 days, or somewhere in between. I noticed that the longer it's been since I've bled, the longer I have to use the cream. When I told my current dr. that I would use that instead of provera, she seemed surprised that it works for me (I'm majorly PCOS), but I've never once had it not work. I love it because it's NATURAL! I used it recently to start my current cycle and the bottle is probably 3 years old. Worked in 7 days.

I'll go dig around and see if I can find out where I got it. At the least, I'll come back and let you know what it says on the bottle.

Well, it looks like I actually ordered mine in 2005! And it still works! I couldn't find the EXACT product online anymore, but I found the below link which is very, very similar (the ingredients are very similar and it's based off of the one I have). I liked this one because it comes in a pump so you get the right dosage every time without having to measure yourself. I did a lot of research when I ordered mine and it has to be a specific potency, which this one is, and it has to be 100% natural USP. This one stands up to all the tests. I highly recommend it. Also, I paid $35.95 plus shipping for mine, this one is a better deal!

i have PCOS too... i've also tried the progesterone cream but all it did was make my skin itch! lol! i've tried countless herbal remedies, and i did 4 treatments of acupuncture, no joy! i read someone said to take a really hot bath, but again, tried that, no use! argh!

sometimes i hate my own biology! lol

Have you considered acupuncture? I've been doing alot of reading on alternative therapies and lots of women have had great success with it kick starting their cycle and ovulation!

yes, i did 4 treatments of acupuncture, but it did nothing for me... i mean nothing...

Jen - did you try the 100% USP progesterone? This one that I take is very gentle and worth a shot if you've used other progesterone creams that don't hold up to the same standards. I've seen multiple alternative health care providers and acupuncture, potent chinese herbs, kinesiology, etc, etc never worked to bring on af. I even had an acupuncturist tell me to go see my doctor and get provera because what she was doing wasn't helping. At the time I was taking major chinese herbs and seeing her multiple times per week.

Anyway, I can't guarantee that this NPC will work for you, but it's been the only thing to work for me besides provera. Why won't your gp prescribe that for you, anyway? That's so basic, especially after 177 days, that I would think he'd be throwing it at you. I'd be frustrated too! Is there anyone else you can see?

i was give prescribed progesterone cream, it was 100% usp, and it worked in that it helps thin my body hair from the PCOS but it did nothing for my cycles, i was on it for a year when my skin started itching where ever i put it on, it got so bad i was scratching myself red raw and since then i've had eczema all over my body. i thought i might have used the wrong washing powder or something. but nope. i'm putting it down to the progesterone cream. i have really sensitive skin... can't use biological washing powder, even a sniff of it and i come out in rashes... lol

that and fairy liquid... but i'm ok with tesco version... LOL!!

i'm going to see my gyn tomorrow as well as the dietitian, to see how my weightloss is progressing, and that's not going so well... :/

i'm going to talk to him about the progesterone tomorrow and see if there is maybe even a suppository or something, as much as i hate the thought of that, but needs must, i can't really be TTC if i'm not even getting a cycle!

i should also explain that we were meant to be going for ivf this fall, but i've not lost enough weight, and so we have pushed it back a while so i can get sorted, possibly have a gastric band in. (gastric bands are adjustable so should we get pregnant, the band can be loosened so i can get enough nutrition for bubbs.)

i do hope something can be done anyway...

thank you all for your replies! :)

Ugh - I'm so sorry jen! Were you using the cream every day?! That seems strange to me. I would definitely see what he can do to get your cycle started. I'm truly surprised he'd turn you away with nothing when your cycle has been so long! If all else fails, can provera be ordered online?

I HATE that doctors tell PCOSers "if you just lose weight your body will work better" (or something similar). Well, doc, you're right, but with PCOS, it's virtually impossible to lose weight, so NOW WHAT?! It makes me so angry and it took seeing many, many different doctors and specialists for me to find one that actually believed me that I CANNOT lose weight. So I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. I hope you can find a doc or someone that understands and will actually help you!

well, i can loose weight to a degree, i can get down to about 16 stone, i can loose a stone a fortnight, but once i hit 16st 7lb it's like no diet can get me past there! but then over around 4-5 months i manage to loose the last 7 lbs but then nothing works after that. does that make sense? it's so frustrating. so i'm going to talk that through with the gyn and see if he can put a word in with my gastric band referral, the more people that put a word in for me the better i think.

i'll also be talking it through with my dietitian appointment. got 2 in one day... gyn and dietitian... so hopefully i'll get somewhere tomorrow. and i'm not going to do my usual and sit there without asking what i want to ask. then kicking myself for not asking.

so do you think my synthetic progesterone pill would work if i can't get anything from the gyn?

thanks ladies

xx

honestly I don't know much about bcp's because I have refused to take them since the first/last time 13 years ago. They're so different now than they were then. You could try it - can't hurt, right? If you don't start bleeding then you're not any worse off..?

I would write down everything you want to ask or say at your 2 appointments, and if you have to, pull out your notes and go down the list. It took me many years and many appointments to get to the point where I just tell my dr. what I want and expect him/her to do what I want or I move on to someone else. I used to come away from appointments mad at myself because I didn't say or ask what I wanted. I've toughened up for sure. I don't think I'm a very nice patient anymore but I've finally found a dr. that thinks the same way I do and I love her. I can go in and tell her I want this and that done (ultrasounds, blood work, etc) and she's all for it. It's great. But, until you find someone like that, you need to make sure you stand up for yourself and get your questions and concerns dealt with. Good luck! I know you can do it!
