Hi everyone

Have a cervical scan on Wednesday. Can anyone tell me if we are likely to get to see the baby at this scan or is it purely to look at the cervix? Might be a daft question but my OH is so excited thinking we'll see the baby, and I am doubtful, as I assume it's just to check the cervix and that's it? No one has really told me what it involves and rather than Goggle it and find out all sorts of stuff I don't want to know, I thought you ladies could help :flower:

Many thanks xx

Hi hun. Sorry to disappoint hubby, but you're unlikely to see more than the top of baby's head, or a foot during a TVU. It depends on position of baby, but all probe can see is your cervix and the very bottom of your uterus.

Good luck with it - it doesn't hurt, maybe just a little uncomfortable if anything. I am always nervous for mine, so tension makes it more uncomfortable. Try to relax, because so far my TVUs have offered me much reassurance x

Thanks so much for your reply. It's a shame we won't see more of the baby but I guess our main concern at the mo is that s/he stays in till at least 37 weeks! I'll try my best to relax but am guessing it's not that easy....
xxx

My obgyn actually looks at both the baby and the cervix, internally for cervix, externally for the baby. Doesn't take that much longer, you can always call them and confirm/ask. I would still wait for your 20 weeks scan instead to take your OH with you :)

Thanks. OH is coming with me anyway tomorrow, need someone to take in whatever the doctors tell me as I am usually too anxious to take it all in! FX they might let us have a baby scan too, but if not it's only 4 more weeks till the 20 week one :)

Hope the TVU goes well today hun.

You could request a baby scan - but in my experience (NHS) they're always pressed for time, and only have an internal scanner in the room. Baby scans are done in a seperate department. ;)

Let us know how you get on x

Hi ladies
Well, good news (I hope!) All the measurements they took today suggested everything was as it should be for 16 weeks (cervix measured 2.6cm, whatever that means??!) They could not say for certain that this baby would not come early but the signs are good seeing as everything looks good down there, ha ha.

Even better, they did a normal ultrasound scan too so we got to see the baby for the first time since 9.5 weeks so there was so much more to see!! Again everything looks great there so that was a huge relief.

I didn't find the internal a problem at all, in fact it was far, far better than any smear test I've had!

Thanks for all your support, hopefully I will make it to at least 37 weeks this time!

HI Bec - glad all went well yesterday

Have you got a cervical stitch in place btw? What happened to you in your last pregnancy, did bubba come early due to incompetent cervix? When are they scanning you next?

Sorry for all the questions, just realised I know nothing about you really. Keep those feet up as much as possible - it's a bit boring being sofa-bound, but well worth it if you make it to term :hugs:

HI
No, don't have a stitch and with Poppy my waters just broke at 34 weeks, no idea why. They've no plans to scan me again but I am going to demand it!!

Thanks for the reply on the other post too. Maybe I should have just PMd you - you are a wealth of information and it's all really helfpul, I appreciate it xx

Hi Bec, just replied in other thread again. PM me any time, IC and prematurity would be my "specialist chosen subject" if I were on Mastermind ;)
