Hi, was wondering if anyone else on here has a cerclage in place? Just want to trade symptoms and feelings really :)

:happydance: Yay Im not alone! :) I'm off to bed now but add me if you like? I am having some really odd symptoms with this in and just generally feel like I am sitting on a broom handle all the time  very uncomfortable! Also have loads of lower abdo pain but this could be the SPD and /or round ligament pain. I just dont know whats normal  xx

Do you ladies mind if I ask why you've had a cerclage?

haha.... yeah you get used to the abdo pain... my ovaries feel like they are like throbbing iykwim?
I had a placental abruption, and they put the cerclage in to relieve a bit of pressure... i was on elevated bed rest, with feet above my head, to allow the stitch to embed. But allowed to sit in the bed normally now :happydance:

Do you know if you are going to have it in until 36/37 or are they going to remove it before?

xxxx

I have one because with DD at 24 week appt I was dilated to 3cm! Then via ultrasound they saw that the bag of water was bulging through my cervix! They couldn't sew it at that point, so I was put on bedrest in the hospital till DD was born at 33 weeks.

This time I had the cerclage procedure done at 12 weeks. The only difference is, if LO kicks my cervix it HURTS BAD, increased mucus and cramping. I'm really hoping to make it farther along this time!

Well you guys probably know my thoughts on the cervical cerclage now. If anything seems wrong, or any little pain presents itself... get it checked out ASAP! Look what happened to me. An infection in the stiches caused preterm labour.

When I didn't have an infection, I felt fine, and the discharge was no different than any other pregnant woman. It wasn't until I had the infection that I actually 'felt' the stich, and it felt a little tender and like it was being pulled.

Just don't take chances ladies. When the cervical stich fails, it is generally due to an infection. The vagina is an environment loaded with bacteria due to how close it is to the rectum. It doesn't take much to get an infection in the stich because your body is already irritated by them.

Thanks Blessed, I'm in a flap at the moment because I had a loop diathermy a few years ago and am concerned as to how much cervix I have left these days (if that doesn't sound too bloody ridiculous).

My MW referred me to the consultant (who was vile) who at first refused to assess me until 22 weeks, as in his words my baby is't viable (I know the medical term but to me my baby is well and truly viable from day 1) and I would need to lose 2 or more before they would look any sooner. I think it's disgusting. I know I'm no expert but I insisted that felt too late for me and cried and cried until he agreed to measure at 17 weeks. I can't wait for it to go quickly enough.

Of course, I hope that everything is fine when they check but I know he won't look again after 17 weeks if it seems ok then, which still unnerves me.

I hope everything goes ok with your pregnancies.

Sherri, I read your story, my thoughts are with you xx :hugs:

I had a stitch put in at 16 weeks gestation due to a suspected incompetent cervix (I delivered my first born prematurely at 29 weeks without explanation because everything was going fantastically before I went into preterm labour).

I remember being told before the procedure was done that a little bleeding and some irritation is normal afterwards. To my surprise, I didn't have either. I felt the same... as if I didn't have a stitch in place at all. In fact, I teased my OB that he didn't put a stitch in because I honestly didn't feel any different.

To date, the stitch has been a life saver. I often feel my babies kicking my cervix and my only worry has been that they will kick my cervix open and I'll go into preterm labour. So far, so good.

On Wednesday the 4th I rushed to hospital after I had period like pains that I immediately knew to be contractions. Thanks to the stitch, my cervix remained closed and they were able to stop the contractions before any harm was done. I've been in hospital since for monitoring and will be discharged once I reach a safe 35 weeks. The plan will be to remove the stitch at 37 weeks and have a c-section at 38 weeks. It is still early days and anything can happen, but for me, with very active babies in my tummy, the stitch has been godsend so far.

Hiya, It's so nice to hear from other ladies going through the same thing here :) I had mine put in just before 14 weeks. My daughter was born at 21 weeks due to my cervix fully opening... no pain,no bleeding, no warning :(
This time round they insisted on a advanced mcdonald stitch. Stayed in overnight and was fine then 3 days later had massive bleeding of clots...all fine , it was just clots that had built up behind the cervix during surgery. Been ok since. I will have the stitch removed at 36 weeks and then the plan was to see if I went in to labour.... however, I have severe SPD and round ligament pain coupled with easilhy dislocating hips and bulging dics in my back.... and breathe... lol.... so it seems that may be enough to warrant a Csection :( not what I wanted but to be honest I just want little one here safely. I absolutly cannot mentally go through what I did when I lost Angelika. I pray everyday that this little one will make it.
I am interested to know what type of rest/activities people have been told to do or avoid. For me... no sex, no orgasm, no lifting, no housework, no walking more than 10 mins. I am signed off work again because I cannot sit at my desk for 8 hours ...the pressure and pain I get low down is terrible! Just not sure what to do! On the plus side I am seen by the consultant every 2 weeks and scanned. Like I say, I am just praying xxx

Just went for a check up and after a painful internal.... my cervix is measuring 4cm :happydance: Consultant is happy with me, so have the 20 weeks scan on Aug 31st to look forward to now and see the consultant on the 14 Sep when I wil be just over 22 weeks :) Still keeping my fingers crossed! Good luck to everyone else xxxx

I have one as well..I had it after my 20 week scan showed a short cervix/opening. Im not quite sure..it was all a haze and rush to have surgery with a stitch put in. Im not sure if im okay or if my symptoms are normal or not..I have some cramping but not too much..only had contractions one day and then went away so may have just been very strong braxton hicks..not sure. I am also using progestrone inserts so hope tha is helping as well..I havent had a check or scan since the stitch was put in..only a check of the heartbeat and she was fine and kicking like crazy all the time..so they sent me home until my appointment next week! :(
