So, I was admitted into hospital 2 days ago and discharged yday, due to thick mucous I was getting and having dark brown streaks. I have had random tightenings, this has been very very irregular, probably 4 times through my whole pregnancy, 3 of them being around 19-20 weeks. They did an internal scan and saw my cervix measured 27mm, and I was told was "slightly short". I then saw a consultant who said he's putting my risk of pre-term labour as "low" however everything I read states otherwise!! He's seeing me again in 10 days time and I have to have another internal scan to check its not shortened any more. I am so scared its unreal and have been crying quite alot, which I know is not good for my lil one. My consultant is going away in 3 weeks and said he definitely wants to see me before he goes away.. which scares me even more. All I can think of is I'm going to have this baby way too soon... I have no experience with this and I'm just petrified.. can anyone shed any light on what this actually means?!

First of all - DO NOT GOOGLE THIS!!! Every case is different and often you only come across the worst case scenario.

I know exactly how you feel. My cervix measured 30mm last week, which is still normal but it had been 37mm the week before (I have scans regularly due to a haematoma). I am being scanned again a week today to see whether it has decreased anymore, and if so I am going to be admitted to hospital and take it from there.

It is very worrying but honestly, the best thing you can do is stay calm. If it gets any shorter they may think about placing a stitch in to hold your cervix shut, but these have very good success rates. I have been told this may be an option for me.

Just try and rest as much as possible, I am permanently camped out on the sofa with th TV on and my feet up. I have been advised no sex, but was already on pelvic rest.

Please let me know how you get on, but most importantly concentrate on the positive and stay as calm as possible. I wil be thinking of you.

My cervix measured 25mm at 18 weeks, and then I had gone and got it checked every other week as it stayed at 25mm for 3 weeks and then dropped to 21mm around 25 weeks. I have been on modified bedrest since laying down for most of the day and had to stop waitressing. I have been taking progesterone suppositories since 18 weeks and here I am at just about 34! Honestly resting is the key, it really helps to not put the weight on your cervix. Also as your doctor about progesterone anything is worth a shot! There is an incompetent cervix thread on here, and most women have been just fine with an IC

I will second the progesterone

Thanks girls. I am going to try my absolute best not to worry, I really am. I'm just so terrified of premature labour. Will keep u updated after my next scan. Thank u all xx

I just noticed you are from manchester hun. Can you try asking ylur GP fir progesterone suppositries or asking your consultant/midwife? Also, have they discussed the possibility of a stitch? :hugs:

Try not to panic, its still possible that all will be fine. Xxx

They've discussed some type of steroids but I'm not allowed to have it until i'm 24 weeks... so I'll wait until then, I'm being seen next Thursday for my follow up scan so fingers crossed.. I just want baby to wait a lil longer! xx

Im 25 weeks and mine is measuring 23mm not sure if that is good or bad

Hey hun.. Well as the doc said to me (and I should take my own advice) I'd not worry too much, are they monitoring you?? They're keeping tabs on me which i'm very pleased about.. i'll let you know if anything has changed for me on Thurs.. on the plus side for you.. your at 25 weeks so past viability stage.. I hope to get to where u are with no probs... I'm sure you will be ok hun just keep an eye on everything xxx
