Hi ladies, just wanted to ask some advice and help.

My son has been BF since he was born (he will be 4months this Friday) with the occasional expressed bottle. However now, my milk isn't filling him up. For example, he hasn't been settling well at night for a month (maybe more) and when we went to the baby clinic to get him weighed last week we told the HV and she said try giving him an expressed bottle for his last feed and have OH do it so he cant smell your milk. That helped a bit but still wasn't settling at night very well.
Anyway, we went out for a couple of hours on Saturday as it was our mates 21st so OH's parents had LO and when we went to pick him up, they said he had only gone to sleep like 15mins before we got there, this was like at 10.45pm! Also I took some milk round for them to feed him (obviously! ) and they said he just seemed hungry even after having all his milk. We took LO round around 3.30-4.00pm and was only due another feed around 5ish. I took 12oz round and MIL-to-be already had 6oz there and he drank everything, the whole lot! 18oz and he still wanted more!
So we have decided to put him on formula so it lies a bit more heavy on his tummy and fills him up more. He had all formula yesterday and has so far today. And it is going well, but I am in pain! I have been expressing around 2 full bottles like one in the morning and one in the evening before bed and expressing just bits in the day to relieve engorgement.
The thing is I'm scared of getting mastitis and the engorgement hurts!

This might be a stupid question as I am trying to reduce my milk supply but Can I get mastitis from not completely emptying my breasts every time? Also how long did it take from when you stopped BF for your supply to go? How long will engorgement last? And when did you stop expressing completely?

Please can someone help me!

TIA

i cant help you with regards to reducing milk supply, because im combination feeding, maybe you should give that a try before switching only to formula?
i feed my LO from booby in the morning, then a bottle of formula for every nap and bedtime.

I've been told a couple of times over the past few days that you can get some tablets from doctor which will stop you from producing milk apparently. Has anyone used these before?
