My 5 day old son was having stage 1 cow and gate formula milk but I have decided to try him on stage 2 for hungrier babies because he is waking every couple of hours with a growling belly and he keeps trying to take in as much milk as he can at feeds but ends up spilling half the bottle down himself! I will be watching out for constipation of course, our daughter being the gannat she is went straight onto the hungrier babies milk because stage 1 just wasn't filling her up! Nathan was awake every two hours during the night last night looking for grub and his belly was growling every time the wee soul! So we will see how he goes, he's had two feeds today with the stage 2 milk and he seems a lot more content and is sleeping a bit longer so it must be doing something for him! xx

Your baby is 5 days old and going through a growth spurt!!!! Hungry baby milk is for babies of 4+ months who are taking 40+oz of formula and not satisfied to delay weaning. If your baby is wanting feeding every 2 hours its because he is hungry for the calories he needs to grow not because the milk isnt suiting him, he will likely settle down after a few days on stage 1 milk.

I am not sure giving such a young baby hungry baby milk is a good idea but as you have already done it just be very wary about constapation

The hungrier baby stage 2 milk is also for newborns +, we had our daughter on it from birth and she was fine, maybe a little constipated but nothing a little bit of infacol or gripe water can't solve xx

I put Rhys on it at 15 weeks cos he was having 9oz bottles and wanting more, how many oz was your little having

I would put your baby back on first milk. The hungry baby stuff is harder to digest. It might say it is suitable from birth but it does say on the carton that it is for delaying weaning. It is recommended for babies 4months and over who are not satisfied even after a whole bottle. It is totally totally normal for a tiny five day old baby to want to feed every couple of hours. It won't last long although it is knackering at the time of course! Babies might sleep longer after the hungry baby stuff but that is not necessarily a good thing. It is like how you feel after you have overstuffed yourself with a great big christmas dinner.

 thanks I was gonna say about it being harder to digest but I didn't know how to word it

I don't ow if I will keep him on it or not I'm just trying him out on it just now to see how he goes xx

Your baby is 5 days old!! Feeding and been hungry every 2-3 hours is completely normal. Their stomachs are tiny and therefore need to feed little and often. There is no reason to give them hungry baby milk and I am sure it will do more harm that good. Best to go back to normal formula until your baby is older.

Wow im gonna get the wrath of all you ladies now but im sticking up for OP. It is suitable from BIRTH. And OP has said keeps trying to take in as much milk as he can at feeds but ends up spilling half the bottle down himself and knows to watch out for constipation I will be watching out for constipation of course

It is not always as cut and dry as "staving off the weaning process". I had ds1 on hungry baby milk from 3 weeks! (wo be me the bad mummy). My son was tiny (around 6lb 5oz by that time) ... so his little tummy couldn't hold as much milk as he wanted to take.. which resulted in him loosing most of it straight afterwards when he was trying to guzzle way more than his stomach could handle. So i put him onto stage 2 milk which was much better as it filled him in a smaller amount. He still woke every 2/3 hours for his feeds.

So OP although your little one is only 5 days old.. its completely upto you... you know your baby and will know whether it is agreeing with his tummy or not AND will know if its effecting him when he gets weighed. And I am pretty sure ladies... that if either it effects the babies weight gain OR gives him bad constipation OP wouldnt think twice before switching back to stage 1. OP I'm glad it seems to be helping your little boy and has stopped him loosing half his meal every time xx

He is almost 6 weeks old now and is thriving on it! He was a little constipated at first, but we're giving him colic drops with every couple of feeds and his poops are as best as can be! He is going through a growth spurt right now and is drinking 4-5oz of the hungrier baby milk every 2 hours, last night he had 8oz in one hour  xx

wow what a guzzler lol. what drops are you using hun? My little guy is 4 weeks old and we are struggling with his poo. we've tried cow and gate which seriously constipated him, aptamil comfort (shop didnt have the cow and gate one) which gave him diarrhea.. so gp said try a diff milk... so now on SMA since the 18th march and hes back struggling to go.. only managing one poo a day and its either very watery or really thick and with a slimey shine to it. xx
