Well, for the last near on 12 weeks I have been feeding dd cow and gate. She has been slow to put on weight, a little whingey most of the time, was sickly, wouldnt take much per feed just never seemed bothered, also only ever had green stools..... so on the advise from our hv we have changed to aptimal!! All I can say is my baby has completely changed - I hardly know her now!!! lol!!! She has gone from eating 4 oz per feed to a whopping 6oz, she is more content, she is settled, not been sick once yet, stools have gone a more normal colour... and she slept through the night!!!!!!!! Yey!!!!

I just cannot believe what a difference. I just assumed that she would like whatever milk she got from the start - but apparently not... Pointless thread really but I just cannot believe how different my little lady is :) xx

That's so interesting because I heard that Aptamil and Cow and Gate are the exact same (same ingredients, same manufacturer, just different packaging and marketing). But I'm also a big believer that baby's bodies know best, so obviously something must be working better. We actually started using Cow and Gate while I was still breastfeeding, but when my supply dropped, I actually tried to put my daughter on Hipp Organic, which everyone says is closest to breastmilk, because I thought that would be better. She had a horrible time on that with reflux. She started just choking and gagging after every feed and projectile vomiting regularly. :nope: We changed her back to Cow and Gate and she is fine again. Weird, right? So who knows. But if you can find something that makes a happy baby, then that's all that matters. But yeah., I know what you mean, it was such a relief when we realised it was caused by something that we could do something about.

I was also told cow and gate and aptamil were exactly the same, very strange. Glad it's working for your LO though x

My friend put her newborn on cow and gate but she was sick constantly and wouldnt feed to the point she wasnt getting out of the hospital.I told her to try aptamil and the difference was phenomenal, she took 2oz straight away and wasn't sick. Her midwife told her to now go back to cow and gate but she stayed on aptamil and she's growing brilliantly x

It is really strange. From what the hv told me cow and gate and aptimal are made by the same company, but they have slightly different make ups. Although health visitors arent allowed to suggest a formula per say, she believed that aptimal was the easiest on a newborns stomach and she explained that it was used a lot in neo natal (obviously when not breastfeeding), as it was the easier one... Apparently cow and gate and SMA have a similar make up, except SMA has more iron... I just cant believe each formula could make such a difference. We used cow and gate with my son and it worked perfectly so I dont think there is anything wrong with it - just each baby obviously works on a different way.... :) Just feel sorry for the poor girl feeding her something that obviously didnt agree! :-( It is still early days though so I just hope that it continues xx
