Checking I am counting from the right day!

Hi ladies, I am not even supposed to be counting but cant help it! I always spot before my period but class cycle day 1 the first day of blood rather than brownish. Should I be counting from the spotting? Its happened again this month I spotted Friday and Saturday then nothing until today which is still only brown and light. Which day should I count from?
